Another vid of the Surprising with what looks to be the new model:

He's got some other videos from the same show, sound is half way decent.

Different guitar in that one- looks to have a bound fretboard (like the NAMM models). So that's at least 2 different protos in the wild.

I guess it was this one...

steve-morse-of-deep-purple-during-his-performance-at-rock-fest-2017-picture-id805593534

I think they are not spread, but the missing single coil pickup makes it look it's spread.
Can't wait till this model hits the stores!

This new guitar has a lot in common with the Y2D.
I am a bit surprised that Steve does not try to solve some of his right hand problems with a new approach. For instance, a carved top would force him to change a bit his right hand position and perhaps help him to limit the pain.
Some great players have changed completely their technic after injuries (Django Reinhardt for instance) or had to completely learn again their instrument (Pat Martino).

I'm sure it does. I have a couple of hunches, but I'd love to know the scoop.

Dargin- if you're out there ... we need some torture.

Speculate

Why not speculate wildly? :) I believe we're looking at 2 regular passive humbuckers and a 5-way superswitch that will allow Steve to get really close to his usual tone pallet. The "active" part of things, I speculate, is two-fold. First, used as a noise canceller while using a split bridge or neck humbucker. Second, there's a push-pull or push-push pot that kicks in a boost (ala Valentine). The 5-way switch may be as follows:

1. Bridge Humbucker in series
2. Bridge Humbucker in parallel
3. Bridge Humbucker split coil (active noise cancelling)
4. Neck HB parallel with Bridge HB
5. Neck HB in series

I saw all of this at the DP show in Phoenix a couple of weeks back
It is a good looking guitar.
Edgar Winter and Alice Cooper opened the show
They were fantastic too!

I spent the day with Tommy when they were in Toronto. Had the chance to see everything up close, play the guitars, talk to Steve, and watch the shows from backstage. Early in the afternoon, Doug Rappaport (from Edgar Winter) came by for a bit- as well as being a monster player, he's a good dude. I'll have to post some pics.

The guitar Steve had there was the NAMM prototype style, with the bound fretboard, and some cool wiring inside ;) Different profile neck than his other guitars.

Though the highlight for me is always hanging with Tommy, he's good people.

no pics, no day with Tommy :)

I´m a bit obsessed with neck profiles. In how far different? Is it possible to describe a bit?

Yes that´s the highlight for me too. I don´t know him as good as I suppose you do but met him a few times. I can confirm that. He always takes care of me when I contact him when he´s near. He would not have to, but he does!

Forgot to update this with a few pics.

Close-ups of the prototype (... or as close as I'd like to post ...):

In action from a pretty damn good seat (Steve actually came over and chatted during the keyboard solo):
