Can someone please explain what versions of the Y2D pickups have existed.

The reason I ask is I got this guitar and noticed the pickup bobbins. No worry, it has the original single coil pickup that I'll put back in, but it made me start looking into the Y2D pickups. I thought these were black and was surpised to find them purple, which is not so surprising since in pics they often appear black.

So it seems the original PUPs were purple, and now black, and then there were some cream ones. If someone can help clarify the background on these PUs (where/when) I'd appreciate it.

Hi!

So far as I know, they´re still purple in the Purple Sunset and D-Purple Burst models.

Only Y2D with black Pups was/is the Tobacco Burst.

Cheers!

Doesn't look like one, the original single doesn't have the bevels around the pole pieces. From a distance I'd guess Dimarzio Areas, etc.

afaik the cream pickups were in a proto which appeared in an Musician´s Friend Ad before the official Y2D-version (w/ purple PUPs) was launched. It's the model Steve plays very much until today and calls it #1Y2D.
Now the cream Pickups are painted purple and Tommy said, Steve won´t let him change the pickups to some proper looking purple :)

I did search and go through all those discussions before posting this. I saw the discussions on the creme ones but never really saw any discussion on the distinction between the purple and black ones, or I missed it. I thought there may have been differences in the PUPs based on the bobbin color but apparently not.

thanks

Yea there is no difference between the black and purple pickups. He's been using the same set of pickups forever! It's only cosmetic, which I think works perfectly with the purple colors and the black for tobacco burst.

That pic you posted looks like it has an insane flame top! Lets see the full body :).
