Hi All,

My bass player has recently purchased a black 4 string stingray - lovely instrument, but it seems to have a slight quirk.

When using the 3 way selctor switch, the "neck" position is only sounding at about half volume, and the middle position is barely there at all. The bridge position works fine and sounds great.

We took it in to get repaired at a well known repair shop in Sydney and after 8 weeks they said nothing was wrong and it couldn't be fixed.

Last jam we had all three pickup positions kicked in and were working fine for a couple of hours, then dropped back to only the single pickup position working again.

Has anybody had this kind of problem or knows anyway it can be fixed?

Thanx
James

Oops!!

Sorry guys,
My mistake, the bass in question is a Stingray 5 string ( not a Sterling) with 1 pickup and a 3 way selector switch. The bridge position sounds so good, shame about the other two positions.

Any ideas welcome.

Wouldn´t surprice me at all if this is just a bad soldering joint somewhere. Cold soldering joint is the direct translation for this problem in swedish. Sorry but my english when it comes to technical terms is not so good. Either a bad soldering or perhaps a new switch is needed. Doens´t seem to be any problems with the active eq/electronics on the bass. New switch or bad soldering is my guess.
