I was curious as to how much use you get out of the middle pickup switch setting. I use the setting closest to the bridge the most, and the setting closest to the neck almost as much. I seldom use the middle selection, and wanted to see how you other guys used it. All help and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I almost always use the back position. Then the middle, I use when I got to take all the bite out and do some bluegrassing. Still a little more Stingray 5 sounding than say a P bass with flats but then again a P bass isn't an upright. My SR 5 gets the job done for me. I have yet to find a use for the front. I don't wanna kill people that are kind enough to come listen to me play.

Heinz arrived in early 2000 and I flipped the switch back towards the bridge and said, "Oh my."

Every few months, I move the switch around to make sure it still works, but it always ends up back towards the bridge.

Heinz kills.

I use the neck position for a pick tone, and bridge for fingerstyle and slap at the moment. Haven't used middle much...

I use the Bridge position the most. I like the neck position with boosted mids for a more driving old-school Rock tone. I seldom use the middle and mainly use it when I just want to hear something different or play around with my tone. I DO like the fact that in the middle position (single coil mode) my bass doesn't buzz like my old Jazz bass used to. :D

I hang all my basses on the wall in my studio. My SR5 being my new favorite gets the most accessible spot and every time I go by it I flick the three way switch, but I got a letter in the mail from a lady in California telling me to “cut it out!”

I use the middle switch when I'm doing 2,000,000,000 note solos! :D

I think the middle switch position sets the nation's terror alert to 'orange'.

either that or it activate's Lord Bongo's robotic martini mixer.

two questions about this.
1. how is a stingray 4 pickup wired? series or parallel?
2. which position on a ray5 or sterling is the equivalent?

not sure how a StingRay 4 is wired, but on a Sterling and StingRay 5, the bridge setting is closest to a StingRay.

Bridge for me too on both Sterling and SR5. I do use the middle setting quite a bit though, and almost never the neck setting, it just sounds too dull and "wrong" to me.

On my sterling i use the neck (series) setting. The bridge is a good setting too, to roll of some treble, but i dont find much use for middle. It just sounds thin.

Mine spends equal time in the bridge and neck position. Haven't found a use for the center position yet. Just seems to suck all the life out of it.

hi! i own my sterling for about 1 year. but i didn't know much about the function of parallel mode. Actually, it's hard to understand the meaning of "coils 1+2" and "coils 1&2". how does they work??? would anybody like to tell me!!??

I FIND SOME DATA ABOUT THE SWITCH !!!
With the switch in the 'closest to neck' position, the pickup's flow of voltage follows a snake like pattern around the poles, this is called the Series position, creating an out of phase slightly brighter humbucker tone. The second position is the Single Coil position, only the coil closest to the bridge is used creating a thin, bright sound for soloing, a phantom coil is added to reduce single coil noise. The last position is the Parallel position, use this for the traditional thick bottom end bass sound made famous by the Stingray 4.
