Hello,

i just bought this nice Stingray 5 bfr rosewood from forumite bulltrout:
EBMM BFR Stingray 5HH All Rosewood Neck - TalkBass Forums

It seems as if canada post or german dhl lost it somewhere. It was shipped with Xpresspost international. The only thing we know for sure is that there was something picked up in Canada, left Canada and had arrived in what ever destination country last monday, Oct. 5th 2009.

Since Then there is no lifesign, the parcel is not trackable anywhere in the world. As this is an unusual instrument i hope someone is going to recognize it and give me or bulltrout a message if it shows up anywhere.

This really sucks...:(

It should have shipped directly to Germany from Canada. Maybe it's laying around customs somewhere? Regardless, I'd still wait another week or so before getting into a full on panic about it.

I assume it's past the estimated delivery time (10 business days or whatever), so maybe get the seller to contact Canada Post about it.

to me it sounds like its stuck in customs. id call the original shipping company and have them trace it for me :)

MrM

This it what we will do. Estimated shipping time was 6 days, beginning Friday, 10.02....

You are right. I should keep the faith and hope someone will find it soon...

...but this is hard.

Yes, we insured it as good as possible. But this does not make it that much better.

I really hope it will show up and it was just someone asleep while processing it to customs...:(

I insured it, so money loss won't be the issue; but it's a really nice bass that rightfully belongs to celllkirk so I hope it didn't go for a walk. I think that someone failed to scan it on its way into customs and that it will turn up, but it's frustrating when you pay for filet mignon service and get a greasy cheeseburger with two-day old lettuce.

6 days sounds rather short time. I've had several instruments shipped from the US to Switzerland, and none of them took less than 10 days.

I sincerely hope it turns up ok!

I've shipped basses to Canada several times and the one last month was held in customs
for 4-5 days before being released.

Well, i wish you are right.
I forgot to metion i called customs today in the morning and they told me they do not have it as far as they can see.
I admit that patience is not my middlename when it comes to such things.

I had a Telecaster get lost in Norwegian customs for 6 months. It did finally show up, however. No explanation at all about what happened to it in the interim.

wow. sorry to hear about the hassle, and i hope it works out. i wouldn't put too much stock in their saying that they don't have it in customs ... the key phrase is "as far as they know".

i found out the first time i shipped internationally that customs processing time is not at all reflected/included in the shipping time estimate you get from the carrier, and it can add a significant amount of time (even when they don't temporarily lose it). so yeah ... there's reason enough to not freak out just yet, but i understand your concern. sounds like a very nice bass. hopefully you'll have it soon.

I once shipped a small combo amp from NY to Hawaii and it took the USPS 3 weeks to get it there. Granted it was an APO, but still.

Keep your spirits up!

Not to add to the OP's stress...
But this is exactly why I won't use USPS to ship expensive items overseas.
I've shipped expensive mics and DAW software (insured) and the items just magically disappeared. Once it leaves the US, the USPS assumes no responsibility for the package!
Bottom line is that I lost significant money and learned a hard lesson.
If it's valueable, it's got to be shipped via trackable means...

It's only been 10 days and you're worrying? Customs inspections and quarantine (it's made of wood, see?) will add a couple of days at least.

I am not worrying because of the time but because of canada post pretending the bass arrieved in the destination country last monday while dhl as their carrier here say they have nothing. dhl are the ones that should do the customs declaration. Therefor they should get a scan before it goes into custom processing, but this did not happen.

This is why i feel a little strange about it...

I had a bass shipped to me via DHL from Germany to be delivered to me by Canada Post. It took a month to arrive. DHL said they had no record of it, but it arrived just the same. It's tough being patient, but give it a couple more weeks.
