I know the Stingray 5 had ceramic pickups before 2008. Only have seen single H versions. Were HH and HS configs available with the ceramic pups, or did these only come about after they changed back to Alnico?

Thanks

Not 100% sure, but IIRC there was maybe a whole year of
dual PU SR5 production prior to the intro of the Sterling-5.

It was the arrival of the Sterling-5 with its typical Sterling
[ceramic] PUs that left the ceramic PU SR5 redundant thus
the SR reverted to alnico PUs.

Again IIRC [so I may be wrong] the initial year of dual PU
SR5s may have retained ceramic PUs until the Sterling-5
arrived on the scene.

Even if I'm right, you're looking for a needle in a haystack.

Soooooo ..... If you want a dual PU SR5 with ceramic PUs,
just get a dual PU Sterling-5 cuz it's the exact same thing,
except without the uglee oversize SR5 PG :) Unlike their
4-string cousins, the 5-string versions have no difference
in necks between SR and Sterling. So you may as well get
a 5-string dual PU Sterling.

Thanks for the reply. Always find your replies useful and informative.

Was more of a curiosity question. Not looking to get one at this time.

But do have a needle in a haystack I am looking for. A Bongo HSp unlined fretless.

I wish you all the luck in the world. I love my 1Hp FL. I don't miss
the neck PU cuz I favor bridge PU for FL, but I still wish mine were
an HSp FL cuz even if I never play the neck PU, the bridge humber
on a dual PU Boingo is closer to the bridge than the lonesome PU
on the 1H models.

That difference is a Boingo-only thing. On an SR or Sterling, the
addition of a neck PU does not displace the bridge-bucker further
toward the bridge.

OTOH I'm very lucky to have the version I do have. If you find
ANY piezo equipt FL Boingo, just bag it. Very hard to find and
recently discontinued .... as are ALL piezo MMs :-(

------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want a visual of the difference, look at the EBMM Site's
product pix. Look at the pickguards. On a dual PU Boingo notice
how the CORNERS of the opening for the bridgebucker almost
touch the outer curve. If those corners were any closer to edge,
the PG wouldn't hold together. Looking at a 1H Boingo you don't
see such a risky looking, fragile looking PG. This shows you the
PU's difference in proximity to the bridge.

Definitely. But going to make my own. Have a Hp and HHp fretted. Both are Sky Blue. The HHp was new and Hp e-bay. Going to order an unlined Sky Blue H in a month or two and switch the necks with the Hp. Would have done it already if I did not order a Starry Night PDN. Also have the option to switch the fretless neck with the HHp as well if I want to try something different down the road.

If I were doing your project for me, I'd convert
the HHp to FL cuz Three Reasons:

1. On this forum you can easily sell a fretted 1H
Boingo, cuz it's sorta the "BP signature model",
but remains rare in the wild.

2. The lone "H" on the 1Hp is further away from
the bridge, vs the bridge "H" on the HHp.

3. It's OK to have a neck "H" instead of "S", cuz
the FL depends mainly on the piezo plus the "H"
at the bridge. The contribution by the neck PU is
minor, so it hardly matters "H" or "S".

Acoarst if I could turn back time and be wealthy
as well, I'd order a new Boingo 4 HSp FL ... but
that was now and this is then, so "Any 'X'Hp FL
in the present is worth 9 BFR HSp Ebony FB
FLs in a-past-that-never-was."
And you can
quote me on THAT .... just like I already did :)

And yes, 9 ! As always, YMMV.

Good thoughts. Just love the sound of the fretted HHp. A bit more than the Hp. So makes me want to keep that as is. But will experiment down the road at some point I am sure.

Thanks

Don't forget to learn about neck pocket
shims ... unless you already know about.

It's been explained a few times, so just
search this bass forum if you need it.

The good news, I finally ordered the unlined Sky Blue H Bongo.

The bad news... was told probably be February before it ships!!!

I am guessing EBMM is busy making a lot of Starry Night PDNs.
