youve got one of the best looking SR5s ive ever seen. You really should keep it stock IMHO!

Hellboy - sunburst back then was the same colour as honeyburst now. Hence yellowy orange i guess.

Pulled the all red Stingray out yesterday and used it on a couple of tracks. We are working on the next Xanima album and I´ve used my Stingrays on pretty much everything but I´ve opted for the newer ones I have. I bought back the red one because of nostalgic reasons mostly and have not used it at all. Until yesterday. Good fun. Sounds more "vintage" and has a very focused sound. Anyway, this is what it looks like when I try to learn new ****.....

I really like the look of this all red beast. :)

A small update regarding this bass...... ;)

Have not used it that much since I bought it back but put on new strings and adjusted it and took it with me during the tour I´ve just done in Denmark and Germany. And I´ve realised what a GREAT instrument it is! Lightweight and sounds absolutely fantastic! More "vintage" than my other Stingray´s. Still have that same punch but a softer, more mellow, top. I absolutely love it! Here´s a recent pic.....:

I do think it looks rather cool. The all red SR5 Hellboy edition. :D It´s 26 or 27 years old about now and rather beaten up but it performs beautifully. No issues what so ever. Will use this bass ALOT from now on! Fantastic and I love it! :)

Cheers! //Jan

Still love it. What is the current tuning? Still set up E-C?

Never been set up E - C. ;) I first stringed it up like the bass strings on my Stick. D - F# in 5ths. Lowest string closest to the ground..... :D Then I sold it after stringing it up like a regular 5-string, B - G. That is what it´s tuned like now as well. But it sounds absolutely FANTASTIC!! I kind of like these early Stingray 5 basses. More "mellow"/softer top but with a killer punch! Thinking about finding another one. Or not. I have enough basses.....

Ha, I misread the first post when I started looking at this thread, again. I was thinking E-C, low to high. But the first post said C-G-D-A-E. My bad.

Either way, I bet it sounds killer. I tried the 5th tuning once. Once.

You´re right at the end tho.... I tuned it C to E and not D to F# as I (!!) wrote in my last post.... :D

I just picked up one from 88. Mine has some noticeable noise if the highs are boosted. Does yours?
