Stingray 5 HH

Hey guys fairly new to this forum and am in the market for my first musicman bass, i am looking to upgrade to a stingray 5 single humbucker as my local music shop in australia doesnt have any dual humbucker models. I personally feel that the 2 humbuckers will be a to "fat" sound and the one closest to the neck will just get in the way.

I play all sorts of styles eg rock, funk, jazz etc and am looking for a sound with a fat bass sound at the low end and real punch with those higher notes.

i was just curious to whether it literally gets in the way when slapping and poppin as it wont be till after christmas till i get to play one of these babies.

If you have sloppy technique or like to play with your hand extremely spread out, it may be a bit cramped, but you get used to it and your technique will adjust itself. If you are really worried about it, the HS models have more room.

I'm not sure this is correct. I'm pretty sure the single coil in the same distance from the neck as the neck bucker on a HH. Although I would say he should try out the HS model simply because he might prefer the tone.

Look at pictures on basscentral.com I am pretty sure it looks like there is a bit more room. I think on bongos, the single coil is the same distance apart, but on SR5s it seems to me that there is more room.

The only thing I miss going from an HH to an H SR5 is the center switch position and the weight . For my ears most punch is in position 1 (bridge) be it H or HH.

I had a look at those pictures at bass central and i think you are right figjam it looks like there is a little bit more room close to the neck. i am currently playing a bass with a pj pickup style and i think by looking at the pictures of a single coil the distance is similar.
and also is the sound as big as the bongo 5HH as i have played one of them and the sound is way to fat for my style.

I was talking about the space from the bottom part of the neck to the bottom part of the pickup. The single coil is smaller so obviously there's a tad more room. The question is if it makes slapping easier. I doubt there would be much a difference.

They sound different than Bongos because the pickups are not the same, and the preamp is also very different than the ones on SR HH/HS.
