I checked my cables. They're all OK.

I've tried turning the volume on the bass way down. Same problem. So it's not the amp clipping. I guess that means there's something wrong with the bass. Maybe someone spilled beer on it.

Forgive me for asking cause this is going to sound silly but could you have the distortion channel engaged ?

No, I'm using the clean channel.

I think the next thing I need to do is take the bass into a music store and try it with some different amps. If I find an amp that it works with I may buy it and sell the GK to someone who plays a passive bass. (I'd let them know it doesn't work well with active.)

If it's a preamp inside the bass that's broken I'm going to have to get it fixed. Does anyone know a good person to work on basses near Oakland, CA?

Thanks,

E

I doubt the amp is the problem, given there's a GK endorsee on the forum plus several other "happy" GK users here who use active EBMM basses.

You're probably right. I managed to get down to Guitar Center and tried the bass with several amps this morning. It has the same problem with all of them. I'm going to take it to a repair guy to try and find out what's what.

So the GK has been tried and found probably innocent.
