I was troubleshooting an electrical problem the other day and testing my two basses to eliminate a problem with the bass electronics. I connected the basses to a Demeter pre-amp then to the mix console and listened thru the studio monitor. The different sounds of the US Kramer bass and the Stingray are obviously different. I was blown away with the sound of the old 1980 Kramer with aluminum/wood neck. I have not played this bass for a while and it needs a fret work. The sustain is forever and sounds great for plucking and other styles. I believe it is a vintage Fender P bass sound. The bass is passive and I run the preamp on full power when playing it live.

I was wonding if any of you MM bass players could clue me in on how to get more of a Fender P or Kramer sound from a Stingray. Any suggestions? I know some of you are thinking just play the other bass - but I don't want to tate two basses with me.

Doodle around on the EQ and play near the neck? My Bongo 4 does a great P bass impersonation, among many other things, like wash the dishes. I'm thinkin' a StingRay's always gonna have that StingRay sound. If you want versatility in one nice package, consider a Bongo!

I have a few rules by which I live my life.

1. No roller coasters.

2. Anything that was fashionable when I was young and then comes back? I ain't wearing it.

There are a few more, but I can't think of them right now. Helga! More coffee!

BTW, that Kramer bass did sound good. DiMarzios and a BA bridge and all that - it was the flagship model, the DMZ-6000B.

Beast, though - think about it. FOURTEEN POUNDS.

Speaking of your rules...

My cousin gave me a bottle of Grey Goose for Christmas. I immediately thought of you. Not that I know whether or not you drink Grey Goose, just that I know it will turn into martinis sooner or later.
