im sure youve all been asked this before. im looking to buy a stingray 4 but i only play at home. i aint in a band or anything tho i would like to be. i play punk and ska and i was wondering if it is worth paying out for a stingray even tho im not in a band. also are there any other decent basses like that have the same sort of sound as the stingray but without the same pricetag.
thanks

Only you can decide if you think a Stingray is worth the money for you. Depending on how advanced your playing skills are, you might consider an OLP Stingray copy. I never played one but I think they offer good value for a lot less money. If you got the money and you're serious about your playing, to the degree that plan on playing in bands or in studios in the future, a Stingray, perhaps a used one, might be a better investment in the long run. You will eventually out-grow an OLP but you'll never out-grow the real thing.

i see lots of bassist play a stingray in punk bands and
sometimes i even recognize the unique stingray sound in their songs ;)

I agree 100%

I'd just like to add: If at all financially possible, buy a Stingray. I wanted one for twenty years, and didn't buy one until a year and a half ago. There's something about owning a top-notch instrument like a Stingray (or Sterling) that makes you want to pick it up and play it. I think there's also a sense of pride knowing you have a high quality instrument, and this translates subconciously as joy of playing. If you buy one, you will NEVER regret it.

Good luck.

Mike :)
