quick question recently bought a stingray 4 string 2band e.q bass
is there any reason for the foam/rubber blocks under the strings?on the bridge plate,
and was £850 a resonable price to pay for this guitar when a 3 band e.q is available, and is there much noticable difference

Yes there is a reason Henry. They are mutes for the strings if you just loosen the screws that they are connected to, this gives you a dull/dead sound compared to having the strings unmuted. By the sounds of it you have an older stingray model like mine. I have a 2eq ray four string in v.good condition with the mutes too.i payed £650 for it...i think it was a bragain and your price of £850 seemed ok.Hope this is any help...Brad

I believe the original idea was to allow the electric Bass to sound like a Double Bass....adjustment is made to give the required sound.

I've seen guys use them with incredible results....the piano, drums, bass type jazz bands....whooaaa!

I miss the mutes, I had a late 80s early 90s StingRay that had mutes and then in a stupid turn of events I traded it in for a 6 string.... and then when I woke up and was ready to play a StingRay again they had changed the bridge... even though i play an SR5 I'd still like to see the mutes come back on the StingRay so i think you got a pretty good deal there with your StingRay. More tone options with the mutes too.

cheers!
