I have heard that Stingray with flat wound strings isnt the greatest sound in the world, but I am told it is unique, and some people like it. Could someone recomend me some flatwound strings, or tell me about the sound of a Stingray with flats?

The Stingray I sent off to Dude had flats on them. If you're not worried about high-end snap or clarity, but want thump and real warmth, flats are the way to go. IMHO.

My new Ray and Bongo will have flats on them right after they get delivered.

Stick some Ernie Ball flats on there 45-100 (Group 3s?) - I use them all the time and you can still get LOADS of snap out of them.

I'm having a helluva time finding those locally. Going to have to do some 'surfing' for them.

I just read the link - sensitive fingers.....????!!!!!
I think I must be the only bloke in England who uses these - I stick them on my 5s too sometimes - I get 'em from Strings'n'things the UK distributor.
I can't praise them enough on the four.
See what you think!

Just checked the MF link for the Group III's; the gauges are right in line with what I use.

I'll place my order after I eat, though I'm going to check with Dude first.

Awesome with Flats

I have a SUB 4 bass and it sounds amazing with flatwound strings. I get numerous comments from musicians on how nice and warm, not boomy, my bass sounds. Be warned: once you try flats, you'll be hooked on the feel and sound.:D

If they had them in stock, I'd get right over there. Other than that, might as well just place an order right here (you know RWC traffic).

You're right, though...those guys are a class act!
