Hi Everybody,

I'm looking for info (a pic and sound clip then would be just great) about the Stingray 5 fretless with double humbucker and piezo pickup.

Can this combination be ordered ?

Anybody owns one of those or played it and is willing to share his/her impression about it ?

Thanks a lot in advance, Paolo

Unfortunately, the only MM bass currently available with two humbuckers and piezos are the Bongos.

If you want piezos on a SR, you'll have to go with one humbucker.

Of course, that's not to say it will always be that way, but that's the way it is right now.

But, as the owner of an HHp Bongo and an HSp fretless Bongo, I can assure you that the lining of that dark little cloud is silver, indeed.

Hi Paolo.

It's very dangerous to fall in love with a StingRay Fretless here in Europe.

Musicmans are difficult to find, fretless' are impossible to find in Europe.

Used ones on the net are very rare, and new ones can be found in the US but cannot be sold overseas.

I'm considering buying a fretted Stingray and make it fretless by a luthier here in Switzerland.

Thanks Guys, I might buy a new fretless next time I'm in US since I go there redularly.

How would you describe the sound of a SR5 fretless with piezo in comparison with a fretted version ? The need behind that is that I'd like start playing jazz with that and I wonder whether the sound will allow me to cover all my needs.
The neck humbucker I was looking for was to add a more oriented DB sound to it.

Wha you think ? I was also planning to use flat wounds string ...

Let me know if it's a good idea

Tx, Paolo

Are any HH fretlesses available? Forget about the piezo-- I just want an unlined Stinrgay HH!

Paolo, I've had a ton of SR5s and at least one with the piezos. I'd say it adds a bit of "air" to the tone.

A friend of mine has my ex-SR5 with piezos and even though he has some nice boutique style basses, he regularly gigs with that SR5.

The piezo option would be very nice for jazz. I used mine to play some Joni Mitchell/Shawn Colvin type stuff and it was deadly perfect.

If you're going for a more DB tone, I'd suggest the humbucker/single coil configuration. With flatwounds, it's really a woody sound.
