Don't know if this has been posted already, but I picked up the new issue of Guitar World's BASS GUITAR (the one that has Flea and Bootsy on the cover) and was happy to see them do a review on a Stingray HH 4 and a Sterling HS 4. No surprise to me that they were blown away by the axes but the treat was that they took the time to put up sound samples online of all the coil selections!!! I found this very cool so I wanted to post and give the link. This seems helpful for all the lurkers who are trying to decide between the two axes. Here's the link:

I really dig the sound of the Sterling HS with position 2 and 3 on! It's track 9. I may get that version next instead of just a humbucker only Sterling 5.

PS--- (The only complaint I have about the test is that they used a maple fingerboard Sterling and a rosewood fingerboard Stingray. I would have preferred for both to have rosewood fingerboards so that it was a true, pure comparison of the electronics. I find maple fingerboards brighter than rosewoods.)

Sweet playing there. Very interesting to hear the range in tone from just switching coils. I definately have to get a SR-4-HH. I agree with the Maple vs Rosewood issue. I think it makes a big difference in the comparison. I also think not having both setup with the same pickup config throws the comparison.

All this aside I think it is cool that they took the time to do this and provide an opportunity for EBMM to shine again :)

Kinda off topic but what I find really cool about my SUB sterling is the fact that it has the Stingray pickup. Love that pickup. Would be neat to have that option in the regular Sterlings as well for those of us who want the smaller body size of the Sterling but still dig that Stingray sound too.

All the coils firing on both basses sound the best to me. And the tone is as good or better than any boutique bass IMHO. Then, coils 2 and 3 on the Sterling caught my attention. HOT DAM these basses sound good!
