Just a question, it might be obvious to some, but I'm gonna ask it anyway...

Wondering why the 4-string Stingrays and EBMM basses have the smaller pickguard and the 5-strings have the large pickguard and no control plate under the knobs....
The 5-string SUB basses have the 4-string pickguard and control plate, which makes it even more confusing for me. Can anyone clarify why this is? Thanks!

With the SR5, i believe their intent was to make it like the Silhouette guitar, with the contour of the body, shape, and pickguard.

As for the reason why the SR4 and SR5 are different, you'll have to ask Mr. Ball :)

That makes sense....is there any reason you can't turn a SR5 into a SR4 look? I always thought there was wiring under that guard. Havent taken mine apart to look...

Hi there A/P.

The SR5 pre-amp and wiring are attached to the back of the pickguard which inturn are recessed into a cavity on the body when the guard is screwd down. The cavity routing is too large to srew on a SR4 crescent moon control plate.

I have pics if you need them.

That's the answer I was looking for Rod, thank you! And thanks for the welcome..finally picked up a EBMM (an '01 Stingray 5 in Silver/Black) and I love it. Came here to try and learn the stuff I need to know to truly appreciate it!
