I know the diffrences but do they sound the same? I don't like the little switch but, I can find better looking sterlings cheaper than stingrays.

With the switch in parallel position they sound almost the same but not quite. The stingray has a bit more bottom.

Ehh yea I'll probably go with the stingray..

can anyone see this color red looking good? And with that color pickguard.. I can get a black one but this one I found is local so I can go check it out. Only problem is the color im not too sure about it, if I don't get it I will either get a black stingray with maple neck or a Sterling Sunburst with rosewood neck.

Edit: If in the parallel position they sound similar minus the the bass part. If I just increase the bass a tad won't that fix it.

I have both and I can't decide:confused:They do sound very similar in parallel. The added bonus of the Sterling is that the series setting KILLS. I actually think my Sterling has more low end than my Stingray but you can always use the EQ on your amp if you need to add more lows. Go to a music store and play em both and get the one that feels better to you........

Hard to say. Theres something about the natural resonation qualities of a Stingray that make it sound different. Also, the pickups are different, alnico vs ceramic. There are more differences than meet the eye. Preamps, etc.

I think they sound quite different, and I prefer the stingray (SR4), over the Sterling/SR5. Different strokes... YMMV :)

I like the three band, but honestly, I hardly ever touch the tone controls anyway. I tend to leave everything flat.
