Stingray output

Question.. This is my first stingray.
Is the output of these somewhat lower than most active basses? I'm finding the output seems to match my passive basses in volume (that's not a bad thing at all), just previous active basses I've had (emg etc) have been searingly hot and required amp gain changes.

(and yes.. New battery! And yes, pickups are at the correct height!)

Is this other people experience?

My Ray's output is similar to my passive as well - which is nice since I don't have to keep messing with the gain.

My previous active basses (ESP MM 'Jaguar' and P-Project 'Jazz') were both so damn hot, really turned me off active basses, had to totally re EQ everything if you switched from an active to a passive.

MY SR output is about the same as a pair of Dimarzio Model J's (SR bass at about 70% treble at about 50%)

That was one of the pleasant surprises I had when I brought my SR5 home with me. Not having to change gain settings when I switched basses. Of course after a couple weeks I quit switching basses...... :0)

So I guess I don't need to run the -10db 'active' pad then do I?

You guys just run these basses direct into the regular passive channel?

The only reason I would ever use the 'active' input on most bass heads is if the gain from my bass was so hot that it caused the preamp to clip with the gain set lower than 9:30-10:00. If your Stingray's output is similar to a passive bass, then I would use the passive input on the amp.

Also, congrats on the 'Ray. They rule!

No - don't do that!!! Active electronics don't mean high output. There might be some basses out there which require -10db, but I don't think there are many.

Yes, its sounding MUCH better, was very flubby with the pad on.

Yeah, its a great bass, like it so much i've ordered a classic as well!
