Don't worry. I was planning on doing that as well. However, the bandwidth which is drawn might proof to be the stumbling block. So please, don't make it a sticky (yet).

I'd gladly have EBMM host the files on their servers if they are interested in them. But there might be legal issues because of the demo song I used.

Nice job!

I do not know for you in the United States, but for us in France, it is mapple touche that is fashionable, and in 2eq!

Can you make some soundclip with 2 and 3eq mapple touch?

If you buy me the basses...

:D

The price list for a musicman is exaggerated in Europe (and in France, even worse). Without taking into account possible customs duties, a stingray HH would cost you 3300 dollars about, for a standard version.

It would thus be more profitable that you buy them you :D

Thanks a lot for you're soundclips!

Added examples for the

30th Anniversary StingRay

Hear the sound of a StingRay with mahogany body and 3 band EQ, even in passive mode (without a battery).

Enjoy.

Thanks for accommodating the request. As expected, I think the 30th sounds the best. It's the most well rounded and organic sounding of all the samples, in my opinion.

wait? they're not silenced without a battery?!??!??!?

also i think there were discernable differences in the pickup material used for the 93 and early 2000 rays. that may be the reason the 3eq sr5 sounds different from the 2eq sr4.

i think its all just speculation :) im personally chalking it up to the boost only being able to be set at a definite zero as where the cut/boost bass knob isnt always necessarly on a definite zero, as it may be on a -1 or +1 but thats just me :).

Thank you everyone for the kind words, and comments on my playing. I have to admit that I did touch up a couple of takes, but just to have them being played as smooth and evenly comparable as possible, and not having any playing oddities distract you from the sound itself. Also, a couple of times clipping occured and I had to replace that part from another take. All that was made in Logic using the new Take Folder feature, which is really a dream come true for the home recoring musician.

Thanks for accommodating the request.

You're welcome, but I wasn't. ;) I've planned to make recordings of all of them for a long time, and finally get around it. The preparation is the hardest thing to do. Once everything is set up, it's pretty painless to do. The main problem is to get in the mood and play each example with the same attitude.

There will be a couple of others following, like the 20th Anniversary (all maple, for those maple lovers) and the Ebony Edition. I also plan on doing recordings of several stock SR4 HH's in order to compare the differences attributable to different pieces of the same woods.

What I find interesting so far is, the the differences "feel" much more obvious while playing than while listening. Seems that the feel and response of the instruments plays tricks on our ears!

No. But the passive output is way lower than the preamp. Still it's enough to play the bass amplified, just need a lot of gain on the input stage. And that's the way how you get the unaltered "flat" sound of the pickup. Also works on the 2 band. Enjoy.

There are discernable differences in the StingRay and StingRay 5! They have completely different electronic packages. Your 2000 SR5 will even have a pickup with ceramic magnets, while the StingRay 4 always has alnico magnets.

Gathering facts (not rumours), doing recordings and frequency analysis is not just speculation.

I don't know how it is made but the 3 band preamp either has a high pass filter in place, or the EQ is a peak type not a shelving type like on the 2 band. The 3 band always produces much less output at 20 Hz and thus sounds more "tight" than the 2 band preamp.

However, what I think is most important to all that: All of the StingRays sound like StingRays! I could work with any of them and get the sound I want.
