I currenlty dont have a bass amp. When I order my stingray, i'm going to get an amp to play it through. The problem is, after I buy the bass, i'll only have about 200 to spend on an amp. First, can someone reccomend a decent practice amp in that range? I was also thinking that it really wouldn't do the stingray justice.

I was thinking of a line 6 combo or a fender rumble 60. Anyone played either of those?

Under $200........... Its hard to say - Look at a music store in the '' used '' section, you may be able to get a decent '' combo '' amp around $200

I have a really old Polytone Minibrute 3(I think it is a 3), and all my 3 Stingrays sound great through it. I'm sure you could pick up one of these cheap, as I don't think this model is made any more. It even has a DI out jack, so you could gig with it, plugging it into the PA.

I actually like the Line 6 amps. I tried them out in Sam Ash and they sounded MUCH better than I expected, especially the Ampeg settings. The Eden setting would probably sound fantastic with a Ray.

If you could scrape up $149 more, I would suggest going for the Fender Bassman 100. VERY small in size, 100 watts @ 4 ohms, tilt back, One 10" speaker (unpluggable to connect an extension cab instead).

From the website: Other features include compression driver horn with attenuator switch (full/-6dB/off), semi- parametric mid-range controls, contour control for scooping mid range frequencies, FX loop, auxiliary input, tuner out with mute, XLR output with pre/post, ground lift and level control.

It sounds really good for it's size. I had the new Fender B-Dec, but that was only 30 watts. I loved the size and sound, but really didn't go for all it's bells and whistles, so I swapped that for the Bassman 100 which was cheaper at $349 and a lot more powerful for such a small, convenient combo.
Sorry, I have no $200 range suggestions, but that's close.

I picked up a Crate 25 watt combo for a throw-down-late-at-night-dont-wanna wake-the-kids practice amp. I was pleasantly surprized at the tone and volume that it could produce. Plus it had a built it tuner , cd input, headphone out plus an octave effect! All for about the price that you were looking to spend. You could even spend a little less and get the 15 watt with similar features.

When I started playing I was using a Fender 25 and it was (I don't use it much since I upgraded) a good practice amp. I've tried the 60 as well and it was good.

There is tons of used peavey combos that will sound great too out there used and not take all of your money to buy.

An EB bass will sound good with any amp and that is why so many opinions.

honestly dude... i have a cheap 10 watt, Fender combo i got at GC for $70 new that i use a lot. it sounds fine. its worthless for jamming with a drummer but for practice it works fine.

i have a bigger combo i use as well. an ampeg 50 watt Rocket Bass Combo (B50R). i got that thing for $300 and its pretty nice actually. ive even played small gigs with it.

maybe you should just wait a bit and save an extra $100 and get something like that. i think the mini wait would be well worth it. or in the mean time get some cheap POS so you dont depleat your cash all the way then save up for something like the ampeg i have.

well im ashamed to sya that although i do have a stingray 30th its still sounds reasonably good out of my little Ibanez practice amp, although its still nothing compared to when playing it out of a Mea Boogie or markbass amp + cabinet

what you could do is get a rly good set of headphones to go with your amp. I have some senheisser's that sounds great with the ray

What i do to practice is to plug headphone into the stingray. or better yet, if you have an effects pedal, use that to put the headphones in the output jack.

Saw a Peavey MAX 126 for less than $100, at Musician's Friend. Also, saw Behringer's, too, that were less than $200. However, I remember a thread at TB that really came down hard on Behringer. Check Craigslist, too; you might just happen come across a good deal.

A friend of mine picked up the Ashdown Five Fifteen 15" Combo Bass Amp.
$239.99 from Musician's Friend and it does sound good.

Specs from MF website:

The Five Fifteen packs serious punch and big bottom end into an affordable combo.

Named in memory of the late, great John Entwistle (whose live solos during the Who song "5:15" made many a jaw drop), the Five Fifteen combo pumps out 100w of power through a 15" BlueLine speaker. Adjust your tone quickly and easily with the bass, mid, and treble controls. Give your sound a quick boost with the pre-shaped Deep switch. Headphone output allows for silent practice. External speaker jack.

Do you think the ashdown would be loud enough to jam with a band and maybe small clubs?

It might work,

That would depend on what the guitarist is using
and the style of music...
It's a nice sounding combo but I didn't have the
opportunity to push levels and/or play along drums.

PA support in a small club could make it useful but
my personal experience has been that nothing under
300watts worked very well, for my music anyway (especially outside!).

100 watt Guitar amps are a completely different story but for bass
you might need a little more.

You could give it a try . . you have a 30 day return policy w/MF.

It's mainly for practice and jamming right now. I wont be able to afford a gig worthy amp for some time now. I guess if the club has a pa i could always go direct.
