I was just in the EB site looking at the specs for Sterlings/Stingrays and wound up asking myself a lot of questions.
Does the Stingray pickup have a " phantom coil" too? Are they different pickups Do they have the same magnets/ wraps ?
What is the purpose of this phantom coil anyway? and if it does something is it really phantom?
Has anyone put a three way selector switch in a Stingray? What differences would it make
Are the pre-amps the same?

The Phantom coil is used when the coils are split so there is no 60 Cycle hum. It is not used on the SR because you can't split the coils.
 
.... so they are completely different animals - thanks jongitarz I guess that would make it a phantom switch if you were to try the mod.
