Hello folks I am new to this forum but a longtime fan of the MM basses. I bought my first new Sabre around 1980 (see pic) and have been enjoying them ever since . IMHO the Sabre is one of the best basses ever, the sound direct is superb, the 2 HH PU has a vast array of sounds and it was ahead of it's time .
The natural evolution from this is the Stingray 5 HH and I was lucky enough to find one on ebay that was the "flagship" honeyburst (Just like the video) within ten miles from me and in like new condition (seller used it for a studio project and thought he would get more for it).
Well I was the high bidder and took posession of this beauty. It sounds Great ! much more robust than that competitors 2500 which is now in the closet !
Now for the bad . After a week or so of playing I finally accepted the fact that the g string kept rolling off the frets, Well I sighted the neck and there is quite a concave bow on the g side of the neck . Also the frets are rounded much more than my other Stingray5, which puts the string right on the sholder of the fret ends . I actually had to kilt the neck as much as it would allow for the g string to have enough room but its not right.
I know now is the best time to address this issue since I wish to play this bass as a main instrument for the rest of my life . Ill post or email some pics of the issue after I get the 100 mb limit thing figured out. In the meantime enjoy the pic I posted and PLEASE advise !! Thank you very much, Joe

I have a '79 Stingray that had the same problem (neck is curved/bent not bowed front to back).

I think your best bet is to give EBMM customer service a call when they're open. I don't think there's too much any of us here can do on this one.

My only other thought is to take it up with the person you bought the bass from (did they know?).

Hey Joe, there could be a couple of other things that could cause that problem. Does the string consistrantly roll of the frets throughout the entire fret board or in just a particular spot? Also, is the G string an even distance to the end of the fret board as in relation to the B string? There are those very rare times that a not so, perfect fret job gets past us at set up.
Before you call us on Monday, do you think you could post a picture of the neck. And a close up of the nut and an anlge so that I can see the angle of the frets on the G side? (from the headstock down the neck) Maybe I can help you out without having to ship your bass to us.

From the pictures, the nut looks wider than the neck - Is that an original nut? The photo has that part out of focus, so it is hard to tell.

The bridge aligment looks good, so it looks like all you need is a new nut. No big deal.

I think we need more pictures from different angles to really understand the problem.

i've had two stingray5. one is a 94 stingray5 an the othe is a 2006 limited edition sr5 hs. both had the same problem as yours. i guess they built it that way. i've even tried most of the stingray5 in guitar center. almost all of them are like that. at first i tried plaing the g strign without bending downward. it was kinda hard so my 94 stingray5 had its nut changed. i didnt want to change the nut of my limited ed stingray5 so i had a pro sand down the the nut where the g string sits to go near the d string just slightly. it made a big difference
