I posted a thread a while back about a neck trade and didn't get any hits, but with a new year, I wanted to give it another shot.

I have a SR5 with a maple-fingerboard neck. I would like to see if I can trade it for an unlined fretless neck. It must be unlined. I hope I don't sound like an unlined snob. I had a lined fretless and it just didn't work out. I'm an upright player as well, so unlined feels like home.

The neck, as far as I can tell, is in perfect condition. It does, however, have a Hipshot D-tuner installed on the E-string. It came to me this way and I would like to remove it and keep it for the new neck (I have the original tuner). I don't believe that the D-tuners leave any extra screw-holes, though if I'm wrong, someone please correct me!

Also, I had to clarify this before: the Hipshot Bass Xtender is in fact on the E-string and the bass is strung BEADG. Hipshot makes a Bass Xtender with a raised lever so as to not interfere with the B-string tuner. Offical word here (see entry #13).

I can take close-up pics of the neck too, if desired. Please contact me via email at [email protected] if you're interested. I have Dudepit and TalkBass references, if needed or desired.

i wouldn't, if i had an unlined neck i'd probably have it for a reason and wouldn't trade it

so good luck but i think it might be time to bite the bullet and buy an unlined fretless sr5/bongo 5

Uh...thanks? I know - I would love to buy an unlined fretless, but I don't have quite as much "bass money" as I'd like - and I was also planning on replacing my current amp setup first. Also, as much as I want a fretless, I think a fretted Bongo 4 would get more use, so that would be the first purchase - presuming I don't have a fretted StingRay5.

I hate the fact that Sterling & Co. make so many incredible basses.
