I went and saw Maximo Park last night (who were excellent by the way) and lo and behold the bass player was using an SR4. In fact he had the most minimalist picking style I've ever seen (he barely moved his plucking hand back and forth across the strings) and yet the Ampeg amp he was playing through was producing the BIGGEST sound I've ever heard. Made me realise I'm definitely doing something wrong, ha-ha, and should probably work harder on my playing effeciency!

And then a couple of weeks back I went to see Billy Talent, and THEIR bass player was also using an SR4 (sweet looking black-cherryburst I think). The only reason I mention any of this is I seem to recall a not-so-long-ago time when all I ever saw at indie/rock/punk shows were Precisions, but that seems to have changed recently and it's cool to spot my favourite bass all over the place. Heck, even my girlfriend recognises them now!

Oh yeah, it's the one and only Mark Arnold! I'll never forget the first time I saw Big Drill Car, and how this GIANT guitarist totally dwarfed his guitar, it just looked... weird! Nice photo! Is it recent, and what are you guys up to?

He is rather tall .....imagine how I used to feel onstage next to him being that i'm only 5'7" :p Mark is living in California again after being in Canada for quite a few years. Mark and Noel(the guy with the beard ) came to see my band play a couple months ago and were all just hanging out in front of the club with our friends waiting to play. They have a new band that is quite different from anything Mark has done in the past. You can check them out here.....www.myspace.com/tananalog

That's cool, I didn't realise Mark had been hanging out in my alternate motherland for a few years, perhaps due to his association with John Kastner and All Systems Go!? Or maybe some other reason? I did know about the Tan Analog stuff, a definite departure from his usual style, and I seem to recall seeing some messages from The Venomous Pinks on his myspace page. You?

:)

Yeah, he pretty much went up there to play with Kastner but he ended up staying for about 6 years. He's still doing sound, most recently for the X/ Rollins Band tour. The VP messages aren't from me but I played on most of the tunes on the VP page if you wan't to check them out.....

Interesting fact: the band live in Newcastle upon Tyne, where I currently live. The bass player was a medical student in the same year as a good friend of mine. He sensibly gave up medicine to become a full-time musician, lucky guy, now he gets his pick of Stingrays.
