Stock pickups or..........?

Do you all use the stockpups in your MM's, so are you confident with the sound or not?

In both my Silhouette's (HSS) I've put a Dimarzio Tone Zone at the bridge and Fast Track I's in mid en neck. When I put the leverswitch in position #2 (HB + SC), the coil of the ToneZone that is closest to the bridge, is active. I think it has more quack than the coil closest to the midpup.

Next experiment: the Fast Track I's in one of my Sil's are going to make place for two FS-1's.
 
I put a duncan distortion in the bridge of my silo special and left the single coils stock, and I am happy with it but I might be willing to soon try something new -
 
My JP6 is stock. They're not my favorite pickups in the whole world, but I can get 'my sound' out of whatever I'm using. They are certainly usable, and they're good enough for Petrucci, so what the heck.

I have no intention of changing the pickups.
 
If I end up getting a Soldano Astroverb, I'll certainly get an Air Norton/Tone Zone instead of my stock pickups on SUB. They have enough bite for my Mesa, could use a little more, but I'm fine with them.

DML, I think I get why you changed pickups on you Silo. I tried one the other day, and pickups (Vitual Vintage PAF's?) were really quiet and quite weak. They really couldn't push Astroverb anywhere in high-gain direction. Stock pickups on SUB are more aggresive.
I guess that was the intention though - Silo is a "vintage"-style guitar, with great tone, but not so much high output.
 
No. My Silo's had Paf Pro's in it and the custom made Single Coil which is refered by Ernie Ball and Dimarzio as a Blue Velvet. Paf Pro's aren't weak at all but they have a lot of mids.
 
The stock pickups in EBMM guitars are certainly good enough, but just for fun i like to change things up every now and then! I have the MM90`s in my Axis Sport but the DiMarzio P-90 Super Distortion and P-90 Tone Zone sound very interesting!!!!! I`m not sure if i will change them or not though because the MM90`s sound soooooo good!!!!!
 
Currently, my MM guitars are stock with the standard pickups. I have thought about changing the EVH pickups so that I could get a better clean sound, but ultimately rejected the idea as I want to keep the guitar original. I decided to keep it stock and use another guitar for anything other than blues or rock, which the EVH is amazing at. My Sil Spec I thought sounded fine with the standard pickups but I know a lot of people don't like the hb fitted for some reason. Personally I think it sounds good. In my collection at present, the only guitar I've changed the pickups on is my strat :)
 
I replaced the pickups in my '96 Axis Sport with Duncan Alnico 2 Pros (hss). I can't really afford another guitar, so this way I get the Albert Lee vibe in my AS.

PAF Pros are the same pickups put in the original Jems by Steve Vai - weak isn't a word I'd use to describe them... However, they aren't as high output as some of the outrageously aggressive humbuckers you find on the market today, and they certainly don't pack the same punch as the EVOs or Breeds found in today's Jems or Axis pups, for instance. Still, they're tremendously versatile and a sweet sounding pickup, imho...

The PAF Pro is one of the best pickups Dimarzio make - great tone. :)
 
im considering changing pups in my JP6 ... im definately not anti changing pups

i really like the clean sound of my jp6 when the pup selector is in the middle position. im kinda scared of losing that tone if i were to change pups but i kinda dont like the bridge pups sound when playing distorted
 
I used to play Les Pauls for their heavy, humbucking sound, but since I got the Morse, I like the humbucking tone in that one far more than in any Les Paul I've played until now. So I'm very pleased with the sound of these PU's, so I wouldn't consider changing them.

...and it's not because I'm against changing out pickups! Heck, I've swapped out the pups on most of the guitars I've owned over the years prior to becoming an Axis addict... but I've really lost the urge to do that since I switched to the Axis... in fact, I've been selling off all my old Dimarzios and Duncans the past few weeks; I had a real stack of them that I'd gathered over the years, but I've only got a couple left... ;)
 
Half the fun of having a strat style pickup layout is playing with different options. So far I've had Lollar Blackface and Rio Grande Tallboys in there, the tallboys are in there right now.

I just got a set of standard USA strat pickups....the slightly higher output stock kind. Yeah, I know weird choice, but I actually think those are good, slightly higher output pickups. I feel like straying from the vintage sound a bit....

I'd like to drop a set of Fender hot noiseless in a EBMM - I reckon they would sound pretty good :)
 
I put Bill Lawrence in the Silos', the stock p'ups lack 'something' as most all harmony central reveiws allude too.
Axis sounds fine as is.
P-90 sports, a subjective call.
I like them, thou they do not sound as P-90s should, IMO>not traditional sounding enuff, but to my ears..better, more Tele-like.
