It is his bass....he can do what he wants. If it makes him happy, who am I to say otherwise? I have modded my JP6 and I like it for what I did. My basses are fine for me though....no need to mod them....but that is me.

I say the same thing all the time. Doesn't matter if I would do it.

I like certain Jazz bass tones, and obviously that guy does, too. (He likes them more than I do, I'd wager.)

He can always get another guard and cover up the extra route and bring it back to life as a regular Stingray.

I can see the appeal to someone who likes the J bass tones. However, an HH can do that as well. I just can't see doing that to such a pretty guitar. It is the equivalent of making a Corvette hardtop into a convertable with a Hacksaw!!

Well let's see... an HH can get close but no cigar, and the corvette reference is ok but meaningless if you can do a good job with that hacksaw. IMO of course.

Something I have wondered about for a while...

I love my Sterling, and I love the sound of it, but I also like the sound of my Jazz, so I have wondered how it would sound putting a set of j singlecoils in a Sterling, so the same style, feel and quality of an EBMM, but a Jazz sound.
at the moment I just stick to playing my jazz when I feel the need for a jazz sound

I am contemplating a new set of pickups and possibly a preamp for the Jazz atm, I would like to edit the tone a wee bit for a more singlecoil jangley sound that the jazz gets near which my Sterling can't (it is a SUB so no coil splitting) I love my Sterling, but there is always a place for a little variety in life...

I would like to hear how it sounds, and the mod is easily reversible (the only permanent work you need to do is covered up by the pickguard) but I don't think I will be doing it anytime soon.

I admire the player does his own thing with his instrument and I think as long as it can be brought back to original condition why not. It looks pretty good and I like try that also to see how it sounds but I am not very good with electronics
