I teach music technology (recording, multimedia, etc.) at Loyola University New Orleans. We're one of the few universities in the country with a broad Music Industry Studies degree.

More kids stopped by to worship the Silo today. The good word is spreading.

Andrew, Mister Glow (or Professor Glow, if you will) is actually living in Austin these days. I'd guess that he'll be there in June (school's out).

I think Heinz is a mighty fine bass in all aspects.

It will be on tour.

With FLATS!!!!

The other bass I bring (probably my trans red) will have rounds though.

I'm not sure where I'll be in June, to tell you the truth. The wife and most of the basses are in Austin. The cute college girls and free studio is in New Orleans. The Silo is traveling back and forth with me.

There's a big announcement coming up in April that might affect things as well.

And would you like to share your little secret with the rest of the class, Mister Worthington?

When it's April, I wiill. Got to keep quiet until then. But here's a story to make up for it.

I had a line of kids outside my office door last night. I asked what they were there for. Seems word had gotten around about the Silo and they had come for a little worship session. There's a big open resonant space outside my office. The hallway to the performance halls. It starts on the second floor and the ceiling is 3 stories above it. My office is on the third floor. The downside being that every horn player on campus thinks reverb makes them sound better...

So some guy is doing a bad job of playing Coltrane licks. I open the door to my office, pick up my bass amp and move it into the hallway. The kids are starting to cheer. Then I open up the case and pull out the DD Silo. A hush falls over the crowd. Comments in hushed voices about how it's the coolest instrument EVER.

I plug in to the amp, turn it up to 1/2 power. and hit a thundering metal chord. In the distance, something rattles. The sax player plays another bad Coltrane riff. So I turn the amp up the rest of the way and hand the Silo to one of my students who's been dying to try it. He's the ultimate heavy metal maniac and he starts to shred really hard. 3 stories of glass windows shake. I think he's going to go get a paper route to fund a Silo.

The bad sax player? He was gone. Vaporized, most likely.

Working at a university provides countless hours of "entertainment." Especially when your wife is 500 miles away so you get to spend all night hanging out in the studio and night clubs.

Although she points out that when she lived in New Orleans I still spend most nights in the studio or night clubs.

Well, John, I hate to give unsolicited advice about other peoples' marriages but I think you should probably have her bronzed.

Perhaps cannonized. My wife is a treasure beyond compare beyond compare. How I got so lucky, I'll never know.

Spent some more time with the Silo last night. I like it more and more. What good fun. Been playing it mostly through headphones plugged in to a Phil Jones Bass Buddy. Great tone. Haven't had time, but I'll have to try it through all the amps. I imagine it sounds good through the LMII with the 2x10?
