I wear my basses so they are the same height standing as they are when I am sitting and it's resting on my leg. That way, I don't lose all of the benefits of practicing by changing my playing positions between practicing and gigging.

I have different basses at different levels. My main bass for the moment, the SUB, hangs pretty low, but even with the SUB sometimes I just wannt bring is up and feel all jazzy and classy.

I've ended with roughly the same orientation. I've done alot of practicing sitting down and become very comfortable with where the bass is when sitting.

how close to your feet do you have your bass hanging?

/topic to kill afternoon

It's at the right height when both your wrists are straight and you don't have to hunch your back to play it.

For me, that's when it's center point is just above belt level.

Which is hardly surprising. Electric basses evolved from guitars which were designed to be played in a seated position.

i used to let my bass hang to the floor because i thought it was cool to play that low....i have since found out i was so wrong.....i know play it much higher around my stomach/abs area....i changed after reading a ratm article where tim c was talking about it....he said the better you become as a bass player, the higher you start to wear your bass....haha...i used to think i was so cool...
