Strap Lock Thought and Feedback

I attached the new strap locks to my Sterling. At first I thought they looked kind of funky being much thicker than other locks that I've seen. But they've kind of grown on me. I am curious whey they are labeled Ernie Ball versus Music Man? IMHO, it seems like labeling them Music Man would be more in line with the bass being Music Man.

One bit of feedback. I have the Fender Schaellers (sp) on my Mustang, the Warwick ones on my Thumb and the Ernie Ball ones on my Sterling. I have carpal tunnel in my right hand which means I have a lot of numbness in it. I find that having to push both sides simultaneously a little bit of a challenge. The Warwicks are much easier for me to operate. And having to pull out the spring loaded button on the Schaellers is worse. But once again, I have carpal tunnel and that has a lot to do with it. I'm sure that people w/o carpal tunnel are saying WTH, but it is a nuisance. I can't play a bass or guitar very well with a pick because I can't firmly control it. Just a comment from a happy MM Sterling owner.

I like that you have to push both sides simultaneously because that way I know it isn't going to accidentally release by bumping one side or the other...

They say Ernie Ball because they are an accessory, not an instrument. MusicMan is the instrument company, while Ernie Ball deals in strings and accessories.

As for the two button thing, it sucks that you have carpal tunnel. The two press is design is a fail safe. As opposed to operating one device (pulling or pressing) to disengage the lock, you must do two at the same time. Makes it a little safer and secure in my book. I don't have to worry about someone coming up behind me or bumping into something, them pressing the lone button, and my bass goes crashing to the ground.

Me, too, and I don't (yet) have carpal tunnel. But I don't mind it. It does feel more secure and I like that I REALLY have to want that strap off for it to come off.

Believe it or not, I just learned something today BUT I am still confused because my SR5HH says "Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5" on the headstock.

Please educate me some more.

BTW I will be purchasing the strap locks and move the Dunlops from my SR5 to my P Bass and put the new EBs on the SR5. Probably.........if the local dealer has the strap locks in stock or will soon.

Ernie Ball Music Man is simply there to distinguish it from a Pre EB Music Man...

The Bongo is the only EBMM bass that doesn't have "Ernie Ball" on the headstock...probably because it obviously isn't a Pre EB.

My new EB strap locks have passed the test. I play violently on stage. I have had other strap locks from other brands literally come apart. I have launched my bass into the crowd on more than one occasion due to the other brand breaking.

The EB ones are just wickedly secured. Just to make sure...I did use some thread lock on the nut....only because I know me...hehhehehe....

I don't recommend my style of playing to anyone with a faint heart....but...I will be the first to say....the EB strap locks are the best out there. I could be bias though...

I didn't know they did these in the UK yet but I just ordered a set of black ones formy black Stingray. I've got Shallers at the moment and I never quite feel 100% sure about them not falling apart when I'm 'giving it some'.

Why thankyou Mr, errr, Lord Bongo. It was Machine head that I ordered them from. Really looking forward to using these. I think I've got my head around them looking a tad chunky, it's all part of the Ernie Ball Guitar System. You see they don't look so chunky now.....

I even put a set on my Status Graphite bass.

It was ugly...that is for sure. I literally had my "Brand X" strap locks fall to pieces as I was doing my metal moshing and the bass flew out of my hands. I got good air and hang time on it and it was luckily caught by someone in the crowd...lol. I had that WTF?!?!?! look on my face as the band continued and the person broght it right up to me to continue on. So, I held the bass like an upright and banged away.....

I was able to diagnose the problem with "Brand X". It was the type that you pull up on the release and the spring must have fell out which caused the lock to come off. Also, the nut that secures it to the "body" of the strap lock itself cracked the body from being tightened I guess. I mean...I had 7 to 8 pieces of a 3 part strap lock. Hot trash.

Kudos to Pete Dubaldo... I called him up on Wednesday at around 5pm and placed an order for a chrome set... and it was in my mail box today (Friday) when I got home... I like EB's design... it's nice I can use a different strap on the fly should whatever reason my strap with the locks are not available.

I noticed that it only said Music Man on the front and Ernie Ball on the back. I also like that the Bongo 5 strings don't say Bongo5...and just Bongo
