So, my birthday's coming up, and my fiance wants to buy me a guitar strap. Im debating between a dimarzio clip lock strap and going all out with the ernie ball stap locks.

What straps do you guys out there with petrucci's use? Leather? A levy's strap? I would like to get some kind of really nice strap with eb strap locks...just gimme some tips guys!

I'm not a big fan of the DiMarzio clip locks. I don't like being stuck using only those straps. I'd definitely go for the straplocks....then you can get a variety of different straps.. I use a lot of different straps, ranging from my custom made dargie strap to ernie ball straps, and a few others.

My 2 cents.

Pearlredburst,

Congrats on your taste in a future spouse. BTW, I'm in Green Bay. How's the UP?

I prefer to stay away from the cliplocks just b/c I do not want the plastic "receivers" to potentially scratch the guitar while it's in its case.

I just ordered my EBMM straplocks which I'll attach to my old EBMM basic strap and be in tip-top shape.

Good luck to you and your fiance in all you future endeavors.

The UP's not bad; not much for a music scene and no one to really start any kind of band with or anything, but I can practice anyway!:(

Fing....what if the moody strap isnt exactly in her price range?

im not sure...i usually am a bigger fan of plain kind of straps. Has anyone had any experience, or seen one of the dimarzio clip lock straps that are made out of leather? Im considering that. Or maybe the clip lock strap with the metal fasteners. I just dont want them to scratch the heck outta the finish....I know the plastic ones wont...but the metal ones may.

Go for the EB Straplocks and a basic EB Strap in black. That's purest understatement, looks cool and feels comfortable. Plus it fits nearly every guitar!
Just my 2cents!

I would stay away from the Dimarzio straps. I had one on one of my guitars (not an EBMM thank goodness) and it seriously chipped away the finish.

As far as straps go, I like the Planet Wave straps, made really well and quite the variety. As far as the strap locks go, I have a set of the EB ones (Thanx again Pete :) ) and they are made really, really well I would recommend checking them out if you haven't yet.

I really like the Planet Waves straps too. Very comfortable for a nylon strap. I only have 2 guitars, but I have 4 or 5 of these straps.

I have dunlop straps on all of mine. I like the hemmed edges, nice n comfy.

Have the Dunlop strap- locks on all too (the EB ones weren't available), EXCEPT the BFR - I got EB Strap locks for it.

They're very nice. I prefer the circlip design of the dunlop (for attaching to the strap), but the smooth lock/release mech of the EB's is great.

I was shocked , however, to see "MADE IN TAIWAN" on the bag/barcode !?!

I would go with the strap locks. I've never the new eb's but they look nice. I'm not sure what kind I have on my guitar.

But I love the Levi straps. they're very comfortable and last a long time. I highly recommend these.

I'll step in and recommend the cliplok. I've had one on my Silo Special for 6 or 7 years now, no chipping, no stripping, no scratching and no failures. I also like the feel of the seatbelt material and I think they look great.
