String Breakage on MM Guitars

I have a newer Silhouette and a newer Axis Super Sport, and I play Ernie Ball Regular Slinkies. The tone and feel I get is amazing, however, I break my D and A string quite frequently on both guitars.

The number of breaks has become less frequent over time, and the strings always break at the bridge. Can anyone help me out? I think it's because the saddles need to get broken in, or maybe I should switch to a thicker gauge? Let me know what you think.

Happens to me too. How often do you change your strings?
I have noticed that a "fresher" set will have less chance of snapping on ya!
Also this happens with my Floyd equiped strat so i am not 100% convinced on those PRS's strings.

When I first got these guitars, I broke those strings once a week. Sometimes twice in the same day. Lately it's been every 3 or 4 weeks. Derek e-mailed me and suggested I get a thicker string gauge next time, so .11's here I come!

RPS stands for....reinforced plain strings. The wrapped strings are identical to the wrapped ones in other slinky sets.

Yeah...me too. I've never broken so many strings in my life since I got my Axis a few months back. Since its had one careful previous owner I would have expected any issues with the bridge saddles needing to be worn in done and dusted. However I still break strings regularly, always at the bridge end. There's no sign of wearing or grooving on the saddles, it all looks normal, so I'm kind of perplexed by it all.

You could blame the player for being heavy handed but then I have a floyd equipped washburn that has literally had the **** kicked out of it and I never break strings on it no matter how rough I am with the trem (and that floyd goes up as well as down!!!).

Needless to say I am WAY more gentle with my Axis so why the frequent breakages??

The only strings that I had trouble with as far as breaking were Ken Smith strings. I have not ever broken a Ernie Ball string.

I've had the same problem. I've changed the saddles with GraphTech saddles and nowadays I don't break any string anymore.

I used to have Graphtec saddles on my old les pauls.. they make saddles that fit an axis/sil?

Yes, the GraphTech saddles that are marked to fit PRS guitars will fit any MM vintage trem or string-thru bridge.

I switched over to Power Slinkys, and not only have I not broken any strings, but the sound is so much fuller and it feels so much better. Dang, son.
