Sorry for the same old question again.....but a total newbie here with an Axis with floyd rose locking trem for the first time..I,d like to change my strings to 9-42,s..
what is the correct proceedure I have seen some say string by string..others say cause its a locking type it makes no difference...also how do you slightly lower the action.....is that done using the two allen screws either side of the Trem unit....
thanks for your help guys...please remember all answers in the format of the IDIOTS guide..lol

I would change them string by string and yes the action can be lowered by turning the two allen screws clockwise.

slight correction on lowering the action via the bridge....you can raise the bridge, but once it's seated flush against the body, it will go NO lower...it isn't a true floading tremolo system on the axis.....I'm fighting with lowering the action lately myself...if it were as easy as my ESP I wouldn't be bitching so much..lol..

anywho, I emailed customer service once and they said to adjust the truss rod to lower the action..but that only does so much..as it turns out, people on the forums have been telling me that I need to have my axis set up properly because the action from 12 on up is just horrible..and if I screw with the truss rod anymore, I get horrible buzz on the lower frets....and the tension is extraordinary....

hope I helped with your question, rather than just bitching about my own situation..lol

On the axis, to lower your action, you need to shim the neck pocket. Pretty simple thing to do, if you have shims. Oh, and if you know what you're doing appearantly.:)

see, that's one MAJOR complaint I have about the axis...I shouldn't have to make a modification for something so simple on a guitar that I paid 1400 for

lol..don't mind me..just bitching =)

The Axis comes from the factory with the action set at 2/32 at the 12th fret. You can easily lower the action by half with the truss rod. How low are you trying to get the action???

This is one of the reasons I HATE the Floyd rose trems. No individual saddle adjustments.

I have no problems wiht the action up to the 12h fret..i'm talking about the action from the 12th to the 22nd...where on the high E string it's nearly a 3/16 off the neck...unacceptable! lol

I don't mind floyd rose..once you get used to changing the strings and what not they're not that bad...what I do hate is not being able to lower the bridge....it's a double edged sword..you can change strings without the bridge going all out of whack..but it only goes so low..

by the way..sick of me yet? lol

re

Firsty guys thanks for all your information...well i suppose this is a question to Jon
should the floyd rose be snug against the guitar body?..mine sits pround say abut 1/8 of an inch..so if I could just tighten down on the two allen screws slightly I,m sure that would solve my slighty high action for my playing...so my question is....is this an acceptable way of solving my problem...I,ll wait for the experts answer before carrying out the said deed..lol..thanks again guys for being patient with a newbie

Yes. It should be level from side to side, and front to back. If the back of the bridge starts to raise up, tighten the trem claw springs. They should be tight enough so that when you bend the G string at the 5th fret up about a step and a half, the back of the bridge should rise up slightly at the top of the bend.
