Hi all,

In my ever growing attempt to learn to play my new Stingray, I think one of the things that is throwing me is the string spacing, in particular the fact that the low E string is farther from the edge of the fret board than is the G string. I keep missing the E and keep pulling the G off the bottom of the fret board...is there anyway to correct this. It doesn't seem that the saddles can be moved left to right, and the nut looks fine too. Can I remove the bridge and move it a bit?

thanks.

I don't think there's any way to correct this - outside of a new bridge and nut. I remember when I first got my SR5 back in the day, I had to completely readjust to it, coming from a Warwick 5 string as I did. Give it a little time! :)

This does not sound right for an SR4. Please post a face on picture of your bass.

I will try to post a picture when I get home today. It is a very subtle difference, like only mm's, but it is enough to really throw me off. I didn't notice it straight off, but have been noticing it over time. I wonder if it would be a warranty issue for EB? I will maybe give them a call today as well. thanks.

I am not very computer savvy i guess. It took me 35 min. to figure out how to make the picture small enough to post. I posted it and then checked it, and it looked fine, but now this morning I can't open it either? I will try again later. I can't put photos on my work computer, so I have to wait till I get home. thanks for your interest.

yeah, like I said, "in my attempt to try to learn to play my stingray"...the neck on my jazz is alot more narrow. I will keep practicing. the tone I get out of this thing will make it worth the effort. I still wish i could move the spacing, even a little...oh well. I'm just glad I figured out the picture post thing...:D

It really shouldn't take too long to settle down and get to playing it. It is a matter of relaxing and enjoying the sound.

you could always take it into a tech and get a new nut cut if you dont like the way it is now.

Do not despair all ye who scream. In a previous life I played guitar until I became a bass player by default. Now that is a change. Not only are the strings spaced differently there are two less. Plus the gauge is also a wee bit different. However, once the low end grabs you there is no way back. Once you have got used to the change all will be well.

Persevere my man. There are great rewards to be had with the jolly old ray.

ya, ditto to what the other guys said. its nothing a little bit of time cant fix. try not to think about it. i would imagine having it on your mind would make the transition a bit annoying and/or slower.

enjoy the bass tho. theyre awesome

The fretboard looks a little dry to me, what do you guys think?

Dry?? what?? In all my years, I have never put lemon oil on any guitar fretboard. How do you put lemon oil on without removing all of the strings? Planet waves makes a "conditioner", is lemon oil better, or is the "conditioner" just a more expensive version of lemon oil? My frets aren't sharp or anything. On the original topic. I picked up my "old bass" last night and guess what...I can't play that one anymore either...yikes... There's no turning back now. I love the MM, I will keep practicing. I have my first gig with the new bass tommorrow night, I will let you know how it goes. I think my bandmates are happy for two reasons...first, the new bass tone...Wow!, and second, I am a more focused now and don't play so "busy" anymore because I can't get around the fretboard like I used too. HA! that will change back soon. I am going to learn to shred this thing if it kills us all!! Later. and thanks.
