There's alot to be said for "breaking in" a guitar. Just playing it, & using the bar
tends to work out the sharp edges and string breakage decreases over time.
I've had my guitars awhile now & I seldom break strings.

I tend to stockpile individual single strings just in case. Sometimes if i don't want to change a whole set before a gig, I'll replace the top E & B for example.

OK, I've had mine for close to 3 years. While waiting for mine to com ein (3 months), GC loaned me one and that is when it started. The one I ended up with seemed better but still does it. Even my band mates noticed the difference when I got it. The A doesn't seem to breaking as much, but the D has started more. Lending some credence to your theory would be the fact that I recently noticed that the D saddle was not even and I adjusted it. Maybe it needs to resettle. Not being heavy-handed with the bar, it may take me a little longer.

Yeah, I should stockpile A's and D's. I rarely break B's or high E's. I made it through last night's set with no breakage! :)

I have been avoiding this thread because every time I have had to deal with this sort of problem, it usually boils down to technique, and not something wrong with the guitar. I am not saying that this is the case because I would need to see the guitars in question(and that is why I was staying away), but Jdouglee has a really good point. We sell SO many Jp's, that if there were a problem, trust me, I would be the 1st to know. If you guys can, live with it for a while and see what happens. If it continues, you can always send it in for me to check out.

I hear ya man and I'm going to try working the bar some more to help it wear quicker. I've just never had to do that before. As far as your technique comment, My one guitar is 20 years old and has been rock solid since the beginning. I've been playing for 7 years more than that. I seriously doubt it is technique in my case.

This is why I stay away from threads like this. I would just need to see the guitar to make an evaluation. Sometimes on the forum, no matter how hard I try, I can't fix guitars

Keep me posted on what you want to do about this. Thanks!

thats not so easy cause CA is nearly the half world away. i am from austria/europe and so its not so easy to handle this. the luthier nearby checked it and didnt find anything (as i did and i play guitar in semiprofessional way since 1986).
i am going to try the EB strings and maybe its better then but i want to say one thing.
the strings dont break where the 90° angle is they break exactly on the piezo!

but to apologize a little bit the JP!
yesterday a string broke on my TCM glory too. so maybe its normal when ya use the trem to have more stringwearness. thats the reason why i ordered a hardtail TCM and thats the reason why i am seeking a Steve Morse hardtail (a used one).

Mick,

I'm nowhere near München, but I do love Kulmbacher Mönchshof Schwarzbier, and I think that's about 200km north. ;)

Mick,

Thanks for correcting my poor German spelling. I am glad that I spelled it close enough that you knew what I meant. ;)

I will attempt to nudge this thread back on course by saying that I've been playing my Petrucci 6 string w/piezo exclusively for 5 months now and have not had any strings break. I'm pretty heavy-handed with the tremolo at times, too. (I like to dive it down until the strings are flapping and then sticking to the pickups at the end of certain songs). I also pull up on my trem probably more often than down, which I would think is harder on the strings.

So, there's my 2 cents. :D
