So, I'm doing my routine restringing on my John Petrucci model... Same gauge strings (10), but changing from Ernie Ball to D'ad.. everything going fine until I start bringing them all up to tune, then I notice my whammy is way high up, as if the strings were too tight - how do I fix this? I tried detuning everything and tuning again, but that didn't work.. helps :(

I would slacken all the strings, hold the bar as close as possibly to normal flat tremolo position with one hand, and tune the strings up with the other. Sometimes when changing all the strings at once, things get whacky. This method has worked for me on both JP tremolo models and Floyd tremolos, when I didn't have a "trem-block" handy.

Good luck!
