strings for fretless?

Recently got my first fretless bass, a US Fender J-Deluxe. This a new world for
me, just experimenting (and having a ball). This being said, I just hate those
strings.... maybe I'm not used to flatwounds, but they sure sound "flat" allright!
anyone knows what kind of strings these are (factory supplied)?
Besides, they are as stiff as steel rods, no bend possible, and have basically no
sustain, whatsover. I just ordered different brands of flats to experiment (I just
have a hint that the EB's are gonna be the best...), but if I would try rounds,
would I absolutely destroy my neck? I do a lot of bending, and have a tendency
to press hard on the neck.

The fretboard will wear, sure. However, a fretboard can be planed, and when it's too thin it can be replaced.
Try roundwounds, and if that's your sound, play that way and accept the wear.
