I was excited to change the strings on my used sterling bass to Ernie Ball super slinkys like i use on some of my other basses.
So i changed them out, and went to my sat. night jam session and thought wow, what happened to my sound? I was pretty bummed. The low E and A sounded OK ,but the D and G had alot lower volume than the strings i replaced these with.(which i really liked on this bass) but have no idea on the brand, they were round wounds with black thread on the tuner side.
They are pretty close in guage about 100-105's ,could the EB's have been old? Any ideas?
I have changed them once again to DR 105 fat beams MM's and have got the sound/volume back.

If they were brand new strings, you could return them as defective and get a new pack. Sometimes, no matter what brand, roundwound strings can be DOA

Good luck, I would stick with the Slinkys though, they sound the best

To be honest no, i was in a hurry to get to the jam.Thought it may have been pup height, but with the same guage strings that should'nt effect the loss of signal. Then.... LOL, i was trying to blame my SVT amp head, my preamp, and pedal, everything but the new strings. But it's the same setup i always use. I guess i just got a bad set.

I would try a complete setup but that's me. Different brand strings = different tension even if the same gauge. Or try a second set of slinkys and if same result, then try the setup.
