Not enough info, Tim.

What sort of guitar are you using?

When you say you didn't get the "full" out of those strings, what do you mean? It sounds like you're annoyed about breaking a string after having it on the guitar for a month... If you're playing the guitar regularly you should be changing the strings about every three weeks or so.

Depends on the strings..some last longer then others. My strings last at least a month and I play regularly. If you clean them off after you play each time, they will last much longer.

Depends on a number of things.

Some guitarists or bassists prefer a dead-string sound, some prefer the zing of new strings.

Some have naturally greasy or acid sweat that will kill the string (in terms of brightness) within a few hours of playing. They might like that.

Three weeks is a good idea for guitar strings because wear caused by fretting the strings will eventually lead to intonation problems.

Of course, if you're playing five hours a day, you'll want to change the strings every week. If you pick the guitar up a couple of times a month for ten minutes, you'll get away without changing the strings very often at all.

When you're gigging you'll probably want to change strings every gig. Bassists (of which I'm one) generally do it less because the strings can put up with more wear. James Jamerson, Bill Laswell, etc. never changed their strings.

I happen to change out my strings weekly. I play enough (probably too much) to warrant that. Plus, I like the brighter sound of new strings. Anywho, I read where Joe Satriani plays them until they break and will only replace that string. Can't say how true that is, sounds like a fish story, but that is what I read.

Anywhere from 2-3 weeks is how long I keep my strings on the Strat. I love the sound of EB's rite out of the package. I play for hours each day, however.

I play about 1 to 2 hours a day and wipe them after each use.
If i go longer than a month. they start popping like crazy.
