Guys, here's an easy one. Is there any way to tighten the trem arm on a JP6?
On mine, the arm is loose and falls when I let it go.

I like it not too tight, but to at least stay where I put it. When I want it out of the way, I can move it (just a gentle little tap).

I'm pretty sure it stayed put on my "old" JP. On my current one, it's way too loose.

Thanks!

If you push the arm down as if you were dive bombing, look on the back side of the trem right behind the arm. on the inertia block there is a set screw. Tighten it, and your problem is solved.

Thanks Jon, I knew someone like you would solve my issue real quick.

Man I love my JP! :)

Oh yeah, count me in too, my EB JPM kicks my ass everytime I play it.

Everytime I pick something else up now I find myself comparing the two and it isn't even fair.

I have yet to find another neck on any guitar that compares to my JP for comfort and playability, even with big hands and sausage fingers. Varnished neck? Forget about it, it's like playing a baseball bat rubbed with a pine-tar rag.

Dan, I know you're a big PRS guy, but if you go back and do a search you'll find that I had a momentary loss of consciouness and sold my Blue Dawn Axis to buy a single-cut. Before I had time to even go play the PRS, Lew had bought the Axis. When I went and actually played the PRS I could have cried. I put it back on the rack and walked away from it. I couldn't stand the neck.

So needless to say I'm in the market for another EB (Axis, MORSE!!!) and I doubt that I'll ever find something from another company that I'd want to buy. But hey, that's just me.

Sorry to ramble on...

As they say, fred, try before you buy! ;)

I really liove the feel of the naked maple neck. On the othe hand, Ihave no problem with the lacquered neck on my SCTrem, which is still my #1. It's so versatile, sounds so good and feels great.

But for the shred-dier parts of your sets, I whip out the JP and fly on it! Also, I use it for the acoustic tunes.

The only things I'm not completely in love with on the JP are the pickups. But it still sounds mighty fine!

Dan,
Yeah, I know. I should practice what I preach. I jumped at the chance because of the Gibson lawsuit BS. I figured I had a chance to grab one and hold on to it, but was so not impressed that I figured it wasn't worth the investment to have something I wouldn't want to play.

And please don't think that I'm knocking PRS, hey I'm from Maryland. ;) He builds some absolutely gorgeous guitars, and I know there are a lot of very good guitarists who swear by them.

I'm surprised to hear that you don't care for the JP pickups. I took my JP to a friend's house who has an older PRS and he was blown away by how hot the pickups sounded AB'd with his guitar.

take care,
fred

Fred,

1) I didn't think you were knocking PRS guitars. Not all guitars are for everyone, that's cool. I was just saying how much I dig them. But enough with the propaganda ;)

2) Don't get me wrong, as much as I love PRS guitars, I generally despise their pickups. And it's not all about how hot the pickups are. For me it's about tone and punch. I find the JP DiMarzios rather dark, but not bad on the punch front. Also, they do sound a tad compressed (which I find is a common DiMarzio trait) - I like my tone to be more opened, airy, I guess. On my SCTrem, I changed the bridge pickup for a Duncan Custom 5, and found pickup bliss :)

I think Dan should try a Luke... (yeah, 2 piezo Lukes later and I'm still totally unbiased... ;) )

Actually, I might be more interested in a Morse...
But in reality with the SC Trem, the JP w/piezo and the coming Soloway 7-string-trem Swan, I think I'm fulfilled :)
