Could someone (a dealer, perhaps) do me a favor and look up the MSRP for a dual-humbucking non-trem Sub 1 guitar?

(I know they are no longer manufactured.)

My thanks and appreciation in advance to anyone that's got the numbers handy somewhere.

There was no MSRP on the Sub. MSRP is a meaningful as a pet rock. I used the SUB as an attempt to change the way stuff was priced. I scraped the chalkboards of dealers big and small......"What, No Retail?...That wont work!"..."we cant sell something without a retail!"

When was the last time you bought something at retail? What I did with the sub line was find my cost assign a reasonable but equal margin to the manufaturer and the dealer and that was the selling price. Why are we as an industry pricing our stuff so stupidly high when no one pays that?

Funny. Musician's Friend has assigned list price of $929, with a retail price higher than what Pete said. And they call it a clearance item.

As far as what BP said about pricing I agree. I can only imagine the special dance that the guys at the guitar shop would do if someone came in and actually paid MSRP for a guitar ("Yes sir, I would be happy to pay $6421 for that Zakk Wylde Les Paul!").

Similar to the PAGAN dance from the Dragnet movie, I imagine. Goatskin leggings and all.

i never really understood the MSRP thing...it seems like it is a way to make the consumer feel like they are getting a deal???

That MSRP thing is not just guitars either. It seems that when you go to a Dept Store like JC Penny or Sear's, all the clothes are always 40% off the ticket price. It's kind of pointless... do people think they are really getting more than what they are paying for? I would figure if the price clearly showed $10 rather $16.50 with 40% off people would by more. But what do I know?

I asked because I was curious about the pricing over at Musician's Friend.

Interesting about the Sub not having an MSRP. I guess nobody (or few others) in the industry outside of EBMM is willing to buck the trend.

BP and Pete, thanks for the info.

I agree that MSRP is ridiculous when you compare it to 'street' prices. What good is it? Yeah, I understand that dealers sell things for a percentage of MSRP, but is that really necessary?

I think MF and GC like MSRP because they to do this: say they normally sell an item for $75.. their everyday price, and the MSRP of said item is $100. When they decide to have a sale, they sell it for $50 and say its "50% off!" when it's really not 50% off their everyday price.. it's more realistic to say that it's 33% off... of the price you'd pay any other time.
