Anyone know the specs of the SUB-1 humbuckers? I need a frame of reference. I seem to have a love/hate relationship with them. Sometimes I really like the clarity and sparkle, other times I want a smokier, warmer tone I can't get even with the tone knob.

Been thinking about Dimarzio Joe Satriani set, Lawrence Wilde L90's, Duncan 59's, GFS VEH's on the days I have the hate........

Then I get the crazy idea to put P-rails in or some P90 styles.........

I don't have any specs as such, and although I did like the original pickups, it was always my plan to tweak my Sub when I bought it new.

I say snag a new pick guard and change out the original, and treat the new one as your test bed.

I went with for DiMarzio's all round as a starting point, but actives were considered. At the time I also had MM90's in an Axis Sport, but that setup wasn't quite what I was after either, so I went for a Y2D inspired passive layout. Really quite flexible, looks great, and retains the EBMM flavour.

Current changes for mine include flipping the D Sonic so the bar is facing the bridge for a little more clarity, and looking maybe at the Humbucker From Hell for the neck, since I moved the Air Norton to my Axis Super Sport.

Steve Morse style switching options could add a ton of variety. Narrow down what you like from trials to a 3 way or 5 way, and you're set.

You could consider changing the pots instead of the pups?

There are a few posts on the SUB's and changing them to 500K will change the tone. It's a lot cheaper and may do the trick.

Pics of the SUB please!

Thinking of Duncan 59's, will they be enough different that the stockers?

Good question... the one I have has got a Dimarzio "Morse" bridge so I never got to hear the stock pickup to tell. It came with the guitar thought so I might one day put it back in.

If you go with the Duncan 59's let us know how it sounds. I have a spare 59' bridge laying around so can always chuck that in if it's any good.

Cheers
