Sorry if this thread has been posted before but i'm thinking of changing my sub 4 string pickguard with something more appealing. My question is would a Stingray pickguard fits a Sub 4 ?? I've provided a link of the item in question i'm interested in. Would this particlar pickguard fit the sub 4?

* WD Music Products - MUSICMAN® STINGRAY® BASS - TORTOISE SHELL

Any reply would be greatly appreciated

As stated, StingRay 4H pickguards fit the SUB 4 body exactly, as do the Sterling 4H pickguards with the SUB Sterling - I purchased a "Used New" (the owner purchased it but wound up going in a different direction and basically "gave" it to me for Shipping :D ) White Pearloid pickguard for my Textured Cinnamon SUB Sterling that looks amazingly better than the Flat Black stock 'guard. The only model that needs a custom pickguard for fit are the SUB 5s with their "Wide Oval" pseudo 4-string shape... an improvement, IMO that the "Cartoon Wordbubble" shape of the standard 'Ray 5-string. ;)

I'm being indecisive as to what color & pattern I want to get for my New-To-Me SUB 5 that I managed to get for a *steal* on eBay in Very Excellent condition. It being Black doesn't help, as just about everything goes with it: I'm thinking I may get one Colored/Patterned pickguard & one Clear to do the "Place a picture underneath for the Ultimate in Personalization" ala Gail Ann Dorsey and her White "Marilyn" SR4...

(Barely visible, but the best I could find online. Click on the pic, however, which will bring you to a EBMM promo video show while she was backing Gwen Stefani with the "Can you tell us about "Marilyn" your favorite Stingray?" section of her EBMM promo video @ 3:45. IMO, it's worth watching the entire video anyway and you've really got something better to do in the next 8 minutes & 20 seconds? ;) )

...and 9/10ths giving me the "Clear"/"My Choice" option will likely become *my* "Starbuck" or something else BSG-related:

USA SUB4 pickguards are 100% interchangeable with SR pick guards.

USA SUB5 pickguards are 100% interchangeable with SR5 Classic pickguards.

Enjoy!

do the sbmm ray35 pickguards work with usa
musicman replacement guards?

Nope. Find the product pix online and compare holes.
A US SUB or StingRay is an EBMM product. An SBMM
Ray35 is not.

There's a friendly distribution and marketing between
the two companies, but they are separate companies
with factories on opposite extremes of the globe, and
distinctly separate product offerings.

Hi,

I know the thread is quite old, but I wondered if anyone can confirm that the SR pickguards will also work with the newer SUB Ray basses (specifically the earlier Indonesian-built) and not just the older US SUB basses? The 9-hole pattern and truss cutout look to be the same but I am unable to find a definitive answer, unless I missed something. Thanks for any help!
