Amazing basses, i put a 92' SR5 pickup in mine, made it even better.
I bought up a SUB 4 from Musician's Friend, and I was hoping it would make a good travel bass. It was a killer deal as it was on clearance, there was free shipping and I had a $150 coupon that was going to expire.
It showed up last Thursday and I am really super happy with how it plays and sounds, and it is really built solid! It's almost too nice to travel with.
I did call customer service today and get a new pickguard coming. The aluminum vibe doesn't work for me to well.
I think it is Sterling's initials or the initials of one of the founders. I read something about the S.U.B. naming a while ago.
Anyways, I was a Fender and Gibson guy for 20 years until I picked up a cheap SUB last month. Best $400 or so I have ever spent on a bass. It sounds better than any Fender, Gibson or Warwick I have ever played.
I am hooked!
hello you all sub fanatics ! I think I have kind of a silly question for you guys. I just bought a brand new sub 5 as a second bass and i don't like the tone on G and D strings. the sound is kind of muffed compared to the other 3 strings. It is also misterious because it sounds good when played alone but as soon as i play along with my cd player or with my band, those G and D strings do not have almost any presence. I brought it back to my dealer and he understood very well my concern and he re-adjusted it all by lowering the strings and lifting the pickup just over those 2 strings but i can not hear any difference.
can someone enlight me please ? i still think it is a good bass and i just love the look !
thanks !
