I just purchased a SUB 5 (as seen below) from Guitar Center, Greensboro, North Carolina...and the plastic was still on the pickguard!

I am curious to hear from the SUB owners out there the comparisions between the SUB vs. Stingrays, passive vs. active, 2-band vs. 3-band EQ, etc.

Discuss ;)

Sorry I can't comment on this - but I gotta say that a bass player used one very similar to yours at a gig the other month -and the sound he had was awesome !!!!

Congrats and please join the sub owners club! I have owned 9 subs, 4 sub 5s, one of those a fretless, 4 sub 4s, one of those passive, and a sterling sub with the 3 band eq. They were all great sounding, some had better necks and one had it all, the sub 5 I got from oldschool noob. Killer neck and light-9lbs. The sterling I just sold was amazing playing and sounding! In my opinion the sub 5 has more of a stingray tone than the sr5's I have owned. The only problem with my new one is I go thru strings fast. That's because I play it every day. Love the tone near the bridge!

Wow Bert, you are Lord SUB!!!

Although I fiddle around a ton while at home, I've been rocking out with my SR5HH in position 1 pretty much 100% live.

I can't wait to compare both of these fivers when it arrives later in the week, I don't know what to expect.

Alright, received this one today and it was filthy! All the metal hardware had some caked on dirt, but nothing worse than the rosewood fretboard. It had gunk on it like you wouldn't believe; layer upon layer of black sludge that was impossible to get off with elbow grease alone. After a quick call to CS, Scott advised me to use some Murphys oil soap followed by the wonder wipes fretboard conditioner. I wish I took some before pictures because the board now looks brand new! Thanks!
