Sub, Bongo, Stingray Honeyburst!

Hello everyone,

I've been playing my sub for over 2 years now. Always happy with the sound and playability. Never felt another bass better. Recently, I was getting into the precision-sound, our guitar player borrowed me his precision and let me do some modifications on it. P-sound is perfect for older fingerstyle funk. My time on bass was divided in 2: half of the time I was using my sub, half of the time the P. But the sub played much better.
I went to a music store and played a Bongo. Man, what a feeling (wooow, we'll be dancing on the ceiling). Never felt a bass so good. Sound was good, but not like my sub.
Yesterday. Found a stingray on ebay, did an offer and won the beautiful thing. Wow. Stingray in honeyburst is now mine (click here
It will ship tomorrow. But now: what to do? I will be comparising it with my sub. The better one stays, the other one has to go. Or not? Dilemma. How would you guys compare the active sub sound with the stingray? Much alike? And the playability? I guess the satin finish on the neck is going to be weird.

Each bass will feel and sound different, even the same model made to the same specification.

IMO, also try to get a BONGO HH or HS for that P sound you like, and then keep as many as you can afford. You can never have too many basses

You cannot have too many basses, but you can have too little money and a girlfriend that's not so happy with all this money spending on basses, amps en fx.
Why would I keep 2 basses with the same sound, when one of the two plays smoother?
I don't really need a backup bass and I've got my precision.

Well, then you do have a probelm, since the SR will probably feel even better than the SUB, but the sub is discontinued and may be gaining in value as time goes by. Dunno really, I think I'd try to eat real cheap for a couple monts...

I don't think the sub will be gaining in value. And I got this stingray for a bargain (811€, normally about 1000€ here in Belgium).

Depends who you prefer, Mr Bass or Mrs Girlfriend. Your choice.

I have both and there is a difference other than materials, the first one being a SUB is 2 band and the StingRay is 3 band. If you got a 2 band Ray then there won't be too much difference. You can't make the 2 band sound like the 3 band, but the 3 band will do the 2 band or pretty close if you cut the mids a bit. I like them both enough to keep them. My guess is, if you like the P you may like the SUB more.

Don't worry And I like the P, but the sound of my sub is so great that whenever I start playing on it, my P starts to weep in the darkest corner of my room. He can never achieve that.

Then it's as simple as comparing the two and sell the one you like the least. But I think you'll have a hard time letting one of them go

A very hard time. I was really attached to my sub. But I don't like the finish at all. Still a week to go for my stingray to arrive. Did anyone ever did a weight comparison? The subs are kinda heavy, are the stingrays the same?

That's a pretty stingray. Get it set up so it plays great, and let it take over your life!
