I know this is not a new matter at all. I've tried searching the forum and can't put my finger on the right thread.

What push-pull pots are recommended for coil tapping a Sub1's pickups? And what's the most common diagram for wiring this correctly?

Thanks guys! I'm really digging this Sub1 I just picked up and can't wait to get at the neck with the sandpaper!

It depends how you want to do the splitting. Do you want a single push pull and split both? Or 2 push pulls and separately split so you could use a single for one and a hum for the other.

Either can be done.

You'll love the neck once you take it down to wood and tru oil it. I've been using my heavily modded sub lately.....taking to rehersal tomorrow.

I think I'm gonna go simple for now with just 1 push-pull to split both. Can you send me some pics of how to do that? Jack, you have been my inspiration on the Sub1 project!

That guy seems a bit off. He charges a handling fee for credit cards and Paypal which is against Paypal's and credit companies policies. On top of that it's just not good business.

Disclaimer: I'm not an electronics expert; I fumbled through doing the push/pull mod on my own a couple of years back and it may not be 100% "right", but it sounds like everything works correctly to me. I'm glad to see that my soldering skills have improved a little bit since then. Beej is probably going to school me on this :D.

I did mine with 2 push-pulls. From the factory, there is a red/white wire taped together:

You need to solder these two together and then solder a jumper wire to the end of the newly soldered red/white wires. This jumper wire will go to middle lug, LH side on the push/pull switch.

I used this wiring diagram from Seymour Duncan as a reference here. The color codes are bit different but it'll give you a pretty idea of how it works. I also ended up having to do my ground wire from the tone control's DPDT switch slightly different in order to get it to work.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I used the Alpha brand pots from Stewart MacDonald, part #1216.

For me, it's been a while. I've had the Silo spec setup in my sub for quite a while. I believe the sub is wired just like an Axis, so you simply put the ground on the 2 middle leads of the push pull, then one pickup twisted leads on one outer leg (one side) and the other pickup twisted leads on the same side leg. I use an ohm meter to get the hum/split how I want it. Split will ground the middle leg. I ran it up for split and down for hum. The songs I do tend to start mellow and then build, so any fat stuff or leads come in the middle or end of a song and whacking down the knob is easier for me.

Now, you can decide which coil you want to be the single by pickup position. I don't remember anything, so use a screwdriver and tap the pickup poles/screws. If the coil split is not in the position I want (either towards the neck or towards the bridge), I pull it out and physically flip it 180 degrees. You could also reverse the other 2 wires on that pickup, but I tend to want to leave the soldering alone whenever I can.

Email CS for a wiring diagram for the sub 1. I had it a few computers ago, but no longer, I don't think. I do have the Axis one saved from when I did my natty.
