Hi,

I have seen a SUB1 guitar today at my local dealer which played and sounded great and was a good price.

I would like to ask what the body wood and neck wood is on these guitars.

The only thing I don't like is the body finish but at the price it's for sale at I could have it re-finished. Has anyone done this? Is the body good quality? How many pieces is it made from.

Thanks

Marc

They are very nice guitars. I've thought about stripping the neck and refinishing the body on mine but I'm not an expert wordworker and if I decided to sell it (now that I've got the Axis, it's a good possibility), it would certainly have potential buyers suspecting that it's an OLP....reducing it value dramatically.

Give the SUB a try ... it's really a nice guitar.
At the beginning, I was not so fond of the finish. But after 6 months with my SUB, I am now very fond of it. Ok, it's not as dramatic as a quilted top, but if you are gigging, you will quickly see the logic : the SUB is a real Panzer !

I have thought of refinishing my SUB1 and even adding a forearm contour, but ultimately I decided to leave it alone. It does sound and play great. It doesn't get quite the playing time as my Silos, but I am keeping for the kids in case they want to play guitar in the near future.

Thanks for the replys. I decided to pass on the Sub in the end as I found an Axis Sport MM90 for just a little more. Pick it up tomorow.

WoW!

(since I've got both a sub1 and an SS mm90)

The SS was quite a bit more than the sub1 in my case. I'm sure you're going to love the SS. Pix when you can, please!

I am getting ready to purchase a SUB 1 HH guitar the body has been refinished....not the best job .I think they tried to give it a worn look, but no good.Does anyone know where i could get a new body,or does anyone know if these were made from solid wood?????

The SUB1s were solid alder. I don't know if you would have much luck obtaining 'new' parts for these as they have been discontinued for quite some time. But, they were quite popular and you do find them on ebay and craigslist from time to time.

A few forumers have refinished their SUBs, some with very striking results.

=) Strip it down and refinish it. Just kidding. Mine is poplar. I've heard about alder too. Depending on which model SUB1 you have a 3 piece assembled body. I recently purchased one and I really like it! Good luck. Get it if it's affordable. You won't regret it

Duh, he's right... the SUB1s were poplar. The Silos are alder, I got 'em mixed up.

Subs are going cheap as chips, but they rock big time. Got any pictures to share? It might be worth it to find one that hasn't been refinished. I see them on ebay from time to time. How bad is it?

Take it apart. Sand it down. Prime, paint and put on a gazillion coats of clear and watersand the heck out of it. It'll look nearly new. Sand the neck down, do the Tru-oil treatment and then a good car wax.
