I love the way the (bridge) Breed splits in position 2, and I use it more that way than in position 1. Very hot but still quacky. Great for modern country and classic rock. Not into heavy distortion usually, but the Breed retains articulation, even though the bass is thick (and tight). Still has a PAF vibe, but can get into more modern too. Set a bit low, the volume jump from the single coils doesn't seem to be more than with the stock HB. In fact it balances well with the stock singles, in my darker sounding rosewood board Special. The honeymoon's long been over for me with this pickup, but as long as I have that SS, the Breed will be in there. Though the AT would be my next try.

I think i'm sold on Breed in bridge position.

With the "it all depends" as a given, my choice (if I were setting up another HSS Special) would be between the Breed and the AT. The AT, I think, is a bit more natural PAF sounding, while the Breed makes a leap in the direction of high gain PAF. That make sense?

PS, if you do go with the Breed, let us know how you like it. I thought I was the lone ranger here with them, but was nice to see ole Wonder Dawg is on them too.

Breed is a nice pickup. I have the Breed bridge and kept the neck the stock V-Paf. The coil split in the middle position - splitting both coils together, is what I use a lot. You describe the Breed well.

I'm waiting to try a Mo Joe in place of my FRED. I use Bareknuckles Nailbombs in my 7 string for heavier stuff and that's like FRED on steroids.
