Substerling or SUB Bass?

Seriously, my answer is "yes". Both are great values; do you prefer the slimmer, trimmer Sterling style of the bigger, fatter (some would say bad-ass) style of the Stingray?

Yes definately, i got a substerling. However i always wanted to know, is it normal for fret buzz or should i increase the height?

HELP HELP I've been sucked into a SETUP QUESTION!

Okay, well, if you're new here, you should know that after three years of answering setup questions (which is like doing a medical diagnosis without the presence of the patient or files), I had to undergo some therapy and my therapist now says I should steer clear of all setup questions unless there is money or loose women involved.

But you fooled me, you see? And now I'm here, and what can I do?

Okay, first - define 'fret buzz'. My setups are perfect (for me) but if I really dig in hard, I can of course get the strings to bounce off the frets and clank a bit. Sometimes this is what I want and sometimes I just suck, but none of this is really your fault, is it?

So, tell us where your 'fret buzz' occurs - nearer the nut? Way up high in wanker territory? All over? Are you well-versed in what the truss rod does and how it works?

Do you have any money?

Heheh i really like this guy. anyways, my fret buzz is happening when i pluck it . Maybe im plucking to hard. So far the fret buzz happens when i pluck maybe i should ease up on the highs. Im sorry, im still a novice at this but hey if theres any info, without paying money , im down for it. Thanks guys for helping me

I think its when i pluck when i get the buzz. is there anyway to cure it instead of softening my pluck. perhaps getting heavy gauge strings or hieghtening my bridge? or if i want to fool with the trust rod, what shoudl i do for trust rod adjustment

Learning to setup your own instruments properly is a bit of a drawn out process I found but deffinatly worth it. Try looking for online resoources on:
Adjusting the truss rod
Saddle height(Things on the bridge that raise the string)
and Intonation

Thats a start... Now your fret buzz prob.... If it happens "When I pluck" does that mena right as your finger hits the string then it stops immediatly? Try playing and hold you head down by the 15th or so fret and listen while your fretting say the 3rd fret... start playing.... does the noise come from the 15th(approx) fret or the 3rd... If it is the 15th all your doing is pushing the string against the fretboard.

just a little note on the truss rod....

try pushing your Low E string against the fretboard behind the neck, and fretting the first fret... (so the string touches the first and last fret.

How much space is there between the string and the fingerboard around the 8th fret?

I don't have a wealth of information as some do and it could be working in reverse as it should be going forward but, I lowered the pu and got rid of most of the fret buzz except when getting down sort of heavy on the upper end.
I am using TI Jazz Flats which also made a world of difference.
That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

before this thread, i knew nothing about SETUP, but now i can do it like the pros can...sorta

First, see if the buzz is audible through your amplifier. If not, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Sometimes you'll get a little buzz at the fretboard that won't be picked up by the electronics.

Second, any advice here is free. Bovine is just pulling your leg about money.. although he would be happy to take any excess off of your hands.

For that matter, wouldn't any of us?

If you are determined to learn to set up your own bass, I highly recommend that you ask Rod Trussbroken for a copy of his awesome 'treatise' on setting up a bass.
