They are thinking about it.

That's news to me. I hardly see where they have the time to do anything like that in the future. John is due for a solo album of his own. Mike is busy on 50 million other projects primarily with Neal Morse, and Jordan is usually of busy with other members from the Dregs and the like. LTE hasn't been done really since Rudess joined DT. The only real difference is swapping Myung for Levin and going all instrumental. I might be wrong but I don't see it happening.

I don't see it happening either, but do you mean "John" as in "petrucci"? If so, he does have a solo record, and it ain't bad...

Yes I meant that John but more in that he is due for another one. I'm sure that will be in the works in between their next album and their present tour. Besides he's going to need some more material if he joins a future leg of the G3 tour in the next year or so. :)

"When Dream and Day Unite" all the way. Just kidding. I'm curious what you die hards think of that album. My friend and I bought that when it came out (yes, that long ago). He loved it, I didn't love it (a nice way of saying it). Do you guys not consider that "true" DT. I breezed through these four pages and no one mentioned it. interesting. . .

WDaDU... Good music, terrible recording. Just my honest opinion.

When Dream and Day Reunite DVD is great.

They are thinking about it.

The last that I read was that Mike Portnoy said they won't be doing anymore since it was a project to get Jordan Rudess involved. Now that he's part of the band, it makes no sense. At least that's what MP said a while back.

As far as When Dream and Day Unite goes, Ytse Jam is pretty cool.

Well, I've heard all that stuff about there being no more LTE. My statement about they're thinking about an LTE3 came from a more recent offhand comment made by Portnoy, I believe. I don't remember where I read or heard that. I don't know how serious he was. I doubt it will happen for quite a while. They've got to finish the tour for this album. Then, of course, there is the need for time off. I could see an LTE3 happening before another JP solo album, because JP is kind of slow about doing stuff that's just his own gig. When there is a band thing going on or just a guest spot that he does, it seems to happen quickly. Let's face it. How long did it take him to do his first solo album. His first appearance on G3 was a few years before "Suspended Animation." I was listening to that material on bootlegs for a couple of years before I ever had a decent recording. JP by his own admission is kind of slow about doing these things.

I like the music on WDADU. I just can't stand the recording. Plus, I'd rather listen to James LaBrie than Charlie Domenici. So, I like the official bootleg, "When Dream And Day Reunite" better--both the CD and the DVD. Their live performances of the WDADU material on WDADRU and "Score" breathe life into the material.

I'm not a huge fan of it either and I'm a HUGE DT fan. I almost see that as their demo tape and "Images and Words" as their true 1st CD. I know people will disagree with that, but hey, it's just my humble opinion. I think Labrie blows away Dominici.

Go for Train of Thought as your first....................Tool fan here.

I ended up dowloading Train of Thought off iTunes & I'm really enjoying it. The arrangements are tremendous & the playing is f***ing unbelievable. For me, the 10+ minute songs don't seem nearly that long, they really stay interesting throughout & are not overly repetitive.

My only criticism is the singer's voice, which sounds like a very generic 80's metal singer to me. He has great range & sings well, but the sound of his voice just takes a little away from the music for me. Bottom line, I'm glad I downloaded this album & will be picking up more DT stuff once I give Train of Though some more time to sink in.

It's no secret to anyone on here (except maybe me), but Petrucci is such an incredible player. I was imagining him as just a pure shredder, but he's much more than that. His phrasing is perfect & when he does let it rip...!!! Also, his tone is great as well (I was less surprised by this).

Does anyone know if any of the acoustic parts on Train of Thought were recorded w/ the JP peizo? Also, I know he's a Mesa guy. Anyone know what amps he used on this album? Heavy stuff.

Anyway, thanks very much for all the suggestions. :)

JP uses Taylor acoustics in the studio. That album was all Road King for dirty. Lone Star for clean. That was also what he used live at that time.

That's sort of my feeling. IAW was such a huge leap after WDADU.

That will be my next one. He used the BFR to record some of that one, right?

that is correct. When you purchase the Systematic Chaos CD, buy the Limited Edition one, it is only a few bucks more but comes with a 1 1/2 hour making of DVD. Lots of cool footage.
